We are going thru deep crises. I would like to explain what caused it and how you could help.

Since the beginning of the year Bulgarian authorities imposed new, tough rules for transport of animals abroad and practically stopped overseas adoptions. Under this legislation, in order to transport pets legally, we must quarantine them for 30 days in government approved shelter, where they must receive microchip and vaccination. There are handful of transport companies with such shelters, but their fees increased drastically - between 400-600 pounds sterling per cat! This is prohibitive! In result, one vital part of our rescue work is lost and our foster homes are full to the max! We focused our efforts in facilitating adoptions in Bulgaria and managed to re-home locally number of cats and kittens, but that is not enough to alleviate the huge pressure we have been placed under.

The stray cats situation in this country is desperate. We receive distress emails on a daily basis. Here is just one of these. It describes eloquently the problem as seen by British lady who came recently on holiday in BG:

“Hi, hope you don’t mind me messaging. I’m currently in Bulgaria (going home tomorrow) the village I’m in seem to have a lot of small cats that appear homeless. I’ve messaged another rescue place who sadly are too far away, I've found your page and not sure if you can help these poor souls, they look like babies they are so small. I’m in a village called Kamena, near Bourgas. The next village Kableshkovo has the same problem. There’s also a few dogs, I know your just for cats but wonder if you know a place that can help save the dogs toо? Sorry for long winded message, just breaks my heart seeing these poor animals, thank you x”

We understand, because our hearts ache every single day!

During the past 2 months we helped number of cats and kittens: cruelty victims Victor & Victoria; the very sick baby Lucy; kittens Lola & Abel, Blue, Leo, Lily, Angel, Foxy, Kustic, Murka. Victoria and Angel we had to keep in vet clinics for over a month due to lack of foster homes; we have re-homed Victor and babies: Lola, Abel, Blue, Leo, Angel, Kustik, Murka and Foxy. Right now we have to find urgently and at all cost a home for baby Andrew-http://bit.ly/2x78Inr !

Sadly, the suffering of the strays here is unimaginable and the need is huge. We are a small team with limited resources and minimal support. We are not coping!

You could help us tremendously by reducing our financial burden. In the next few days we must raise funds for our food and kitty litter order - 500 Euro. This is URGENT.

We also have vet bills as following:

Baby Angel - https://bit.ly/2CQ1gTa - 118 Euro

Baby Lucy - https://bit.ly/2NFEBx4 - 120 Euro

Victoria - https://bit.ly/2NsjqhH- 130 Euro

Victor - https://bit.ly/2oe1pW8 - 132 Euro

Lastly, at the end of September we need to transport our disabled Gloria to new foster home. Due to unforeseen circumstances she cannot stay at her current one any longer. This will cost another 90 Euro.

The total is 1090 Euro - impossible for us to pay without help. Please, donate to unable us continue to rescue, treat and re-home these forsaken Bulgarian cats and kittens.

With hope and gratitude,

Julia/BSCRRC

  • We helped rescue little Frank while we were in Bulgaria on holiday in Sept 2018. The ladies at BSCRRC do wonderful work for Stray cats and kittens in need, without them we wouldn’t have been able to see Frank adopted in his new home! Please consider donating to this wonderful shelter if you have ene just €1 spare!!
