My mom , Tessie, was admitted at Olivarez General Hospital in Paranaque City, Philippines on 7th Sept 2020 after a series of rejections from more than 10 hospitals across Cavite and Metro Manila where all hospitals were overwhelmed by patients due to COVID-19 pandemic. She was diagnosed with Acute Respiratory Failure secondary to Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia, and Acute Kidney Injury secondary to (1) Decreased effecting Circulating Volume secondary to bleeding (2) Sepsis on top of Chronic kidney disease.
Her first three weeks of stay in the hospital were mostly spent in the intensive care unit (ICU), making it difficult for her doctors to perform other investigations and procedures. These include finding out the causes of her internal bleeding and continuous blood discharges. Following a dialysis, she needed to undergo a series of blood transfusion to keep her blood Hb level within safe range. Due to her pneumonia, she was unable to breathe on her own and needed to be intubated and aided with a respirator. She underwent a Tracheostomy procedure to insert a tube that would allow direct access to her lungs from her throat. And with swallowing difficulty, she also underwent a percutaneous endoscopic gastronomy (PEG) to insert a tube from her side belly directly to her stomach. This will serve as access for food during feeding.
Now on her fourth week in the hospital, her condition is getting better. She may soon be medically stable for discharge (with her tracheostomy and PEG tubes on) but because of unsettled medical bills, we are unable to bring her home. Taking care of her post-discharge will also be very resource intensive as we need to setup our home with breathing apparatus and a hospital bed, as well as getting someone who is medically trained to regularly visit and check on her condition.
The cost of her hospitalisation has rapidly depleted our resources. As of September 30, her current running medical bill is already at PHP 1.3 Million.
You can be a good Samaritan and help us bring our mom home.
Any amount of financial aid can go a long way to help my mom and our family go through these trying times.
Thanks and may God bless you abundantly.
