My name is Ashley Rose Victoria and I was hoping that you could help me bring my Mama home. My Mother, Charie Maglinte, who is from Los Baños, Laguna Philippines is single mom to me (18 yrs. old) and my sister Elisha (13 yrs. old) and sole caregiver for our Lola (grandma) who suffered a stroke a few months back that impacted her mobility. We are still reeling from Lola’s hospitalization and care needs when my Mom required hospitalization at Los Banos Doctor’s Hospital (LBDH) last November 6th.

As the lone income provider of the family, she has been managing to make ends meet despite the struggles of keeping up with her parental responsibilities, sending us kids to school, putting food on the table, bills and on top of that, Lola’s hospitalization and medication bills. We have now hit rock bottom after Mom’s devastating news of illness. Prior to her being hospitalized, she initially complained of excruciating leg and back pain on the right side of her body. It went on for days until it became unbearable for her to even walk, when she decided to go to the hospital.

After further assessments by doctors, it has revealed an infection on the parts of her back and extending to her right leg that now requires urgent surgical procedure of draining and debridement, she has undergone this procedure twice as the infection is still spreading and is now again scheduled for the same procedure for a third time, the latest on Monday, November 15th. While initial diagnosis of her illness is causing her low immunity and previously undiagnosed diabetic complications, the true source of infection is yet to be determined.

Aside from the scheduled surgery, further testing is being done to determine specific underlying cause for her getting sick. The doctors handling her case have advised me to prepare funds for a series of surgical procedures to contain the spread of infection and manage her symptoms. I have also been informed that her condition has taken a turn for worse if she’s not provided with immediate care and it will be a long road to recovery that could extend to months if everything goes well with current treatment plan.

Due to this struggle and currently taking care of Mama full time, I have decided to take a leave of absence from the school at the university to focus on assisting with Mama’s care and hopefully, on the way to her recovery. The current running bill has now exceeded Mama’s HMO coverage that is why I am asking for support.

Her doctors have also recommended to transfer her to Batangas Medical City, where the facility could better support her treatment needs. I would also like to take this chance to ask for your help through this GoGetFunding campaign to give my Mama an opportunity to heal and recover without worrying about finances at this time.

Some people have reached out to help and I thank each and every one of you for such an outpouring of compassion and love for Mama. This means a lot and we are overwhelmed and so grateful to all for thinking of her. I know that it’s been a tough few months for everyone and if it’s not too much to ask, any form of support helps. Realistically, it will be a long recovery process but whatever help you extend, brings us closer to her coming home to focus on resting and healing.

This campaign was created and managed by my Mama's friends from Gamma Sigma Sorority on our family’s behalf.

Ashley

A simple thank you seems inadequate to express our appreciation to everyone who has contributed to Charie's cause. Since our last update, Charie has had a couple more major surgeries completed. The procedures she's undergone were meant to close large wounds that also entailed skin grafting to cover the areas. . . . .
