My wife is from Isaan region of Thailand and for a belated long holiday, we happen to visit her mom at the beginning of July 2017.

Just 3 days into the visit, while on a fishing trip to a nearby stream, we were drawn to some muffled cries, only to discover a taped up box with 2 puppies inside. A brown and a black mongrel, left to die.

Having dogs and cats in Singapore, we were kind of flabbergasted, though it was not the first time we encountered pet abandonment, not only in Thailand but in Singapore.

We brought them back to my mother-in-law's home and name the brown Sethi and black Mangmee. My wife was especially attracted to the black puppy, a timid girl compared tp her brother Sethi, who is mixing in quite well with my MiL's 2 dogs; a 2 year old mongrel & 6 month old Labrador.

That being said, my MiL isn't too enthuasiatic with the idea of adding another 2 under her care. Therefore Sethi was rehomed by my wife to her sister's home at another village nearby. However, quite as cute as Mangmee is, she was kind of shunned by people when asked if they would want to adopt.

It was days later that my wife told me, people around there ain't receptive of black dogs, superstitious luck thing (like black cats to whoever at whatever part of the world there may be).

The idea of bringing her back to Singapore rang in our minds but we know the cost is kind of prohibitive, just the 30 days stay in quarantine in Singapore costs a bomb. Not mentioning the required vet stay, vet certs/rabies & misc vaccines, import papers, freight and handling charges.

On the Thai side, the best quote I have is 35,000 baht to settle the export side and S$1500 for the import side. That is S$3000 for the whole process.

We are leaving in mid-August, time is running out for us to decide to bring her back, or leave her to a reluctant adopter who we fear might potentially abandon her again...
