Help bring Jonny home!

Update posted by Jonathan Dunne On Sep 21, 2017

Hi everyone, just a quick hello and update to let you all know how im doing! :)

I have been back in Ireland now almost 8 weeks. Thankfully my leg cast has been removed and my arm is no longer in a sling. I have been attending weekly physical therapy sessions and doing exercises daily at home. I am still unable to walk without crutches however the physical therapy has been making a huge difference in building strength in my leg and hopefully over the next 4 weeks i can begin walking without them.

I am able to bend my knee till about 90 degrees which is an improvement from before again helped with the regular physio.

I am still unable to lift my right arm as a result of nerve damage however like i said physical therapy has been a great help and i am starting to get more movement back, i will be going for a nerve conduction test next week to determine the full extent of the damage however doctors are positive it wont be permanent and i should make a full recovery over time.

Overall things are definitely improving and whilst it is a slow process im confident i will make a good recovery.

I would like to thank everyone again for the support and help during this time, your donations were a great help with my recovery and i would like to share with everyone exactly what they were used for:

Firstly in Laos there was medical costs such as ambulances, hospital stays, xrays and follow up appointments which some of the money donated was used for, there was also the cost of coming home to Ireland which was quite significant as i had to fly in business class as my leg was in a cast and i was unable to bend my knee to sit in economy class for almost 20 hours.

The remainder of the money donated was used to pay for consultation fees here in ireland as well as weekly physical therapy sessions which are still ongoing!

Due to the nature of my accident there were legal fees involved however these were covered by myself with the help of a loan from a close family member.

Thank you again and i will keep you all updated on my progress.

Jonny

So, after months of rest and being looked after here in Laos i am finally recovered enough to fly home! Ill be back in ireland in 2 weeks and then my proper medical treatment can begin! Leg is healing good and im hoping to be back on my feet in the next few weeks with some regular physical therapy, my arm possibly will need surgery but we will just have to wait and see what a specialist says! Thanks again to everyone who supported me on this, it has helped so much and your generosity will never be forgotten! Looking forward to seeing friends and family soon... positive thoughts for a fast recovery! Jonny x

"Hi everyone, Jonny's father, mother and sister would like to thank everyone dearly for their support and fundraising to help bring him home. People's kindness has touched our hearts and we are in awe of the generosity and concern of both people we know and strangers alike. It has been a difficult path both mentally and financially for the whole family and everyones love and thoughtfulness has helped ease the worry. We are extremely grateful and will remember each and every person who has helped ! Thank you so very much."
