Help Brenda Kick Cancer’s Butt!

in April 2014, our friend, artist, photographer, writer and dog-lover Brenda Johima was diagnosed with a grade 3 invasive breast cancer.  She's had an excisional biopsy, breast conserving surgery (lumpectomy) and a sentinel node biopsy.  Next, are three planned treatments; radiation, chemotherapy and hormonal therapy.

Brenda has been advised to "prepare for a long haul" which may be "up to one year" for treatment, recovery and healing time.

It's never easy fighting a life-threatening illness, and Brenda has been facing the challenge with grace, courage and strength. But as a self-employed person, any day you don't work is a day you don't get paid.  And because Brenda's home is Fanny Bay, way up Vancouver Island from Victoria, she will have to live away from home while she gets her radiation treatment at the BC Cancer Agency's Vancouver Island Centre.  All of this takes time, organization and money - things that a person fighting cancer shouldn't have to worry about. 

Before Brenda got sick, she was looking forward to moving to the Okanagan and finding work there. Instead, she has had to delay moving forward with her life - and is facing this battle without work, or a financial buffer.  It's time for those who know Brenda to step in with all kinds of support: money for accommodation while she is getting treatments in Victoria, money to keep fresh food on the table while she recovers, money to help look after her beloved standard poodle, Teddy.

Brenda believes in the power of fresh daily juicing, green drinks, organic fruits and vegetables, to keep her energy up and to flush toxins, and to deal with the possible side effects of treatment. She would like to include yoga and massage therapy for pain management and relaxation, and also pay for a one year membership to InspireHealth.ca as an adjunct to conventional medicine.
