UPDATE: AUGUST 22 2019
Hi all! This is Potchie, Bern’s boyfriend.
First of all, thank you to everyone who reached out and showed their support. We really can’t thank you enough. I just want to share with you guys that Bern is doing great and is on her way to recovery.
For the past five weeks, she’s been resting and is still on continuous medication. Bern also underwent a couple of follow up tests including a visual field test for her eyes and another MRI for her hemorrhage - both results looking positive. She has also been doing physical therapy resulting in an increase in stamina and endurance. As for her voice, it’s still on its way back. She had lost her voice due to the intubation when she was in a coma. Her doctors are hoping that within the next two months, her voice will be better and she would have no problem communicating. But for now, you can only hear her whispering.
Everyday, she comes with me to the office since she can’t be left alone yet. Luckily, our office is less than a kilometer away from our house which makes travelling easy for her. She still can’t work so she spends her time there practicing how to write and talk. We’re also lucky that her physical therapist visits her in the office as part of her weekly routine.
We are just glad that she’s with us today. We’re still overwhelmed with everyone’s support. I’m so thankful that Bern has so many supportive friends and loving family. If she can speak normally, I’m pretty sure she’ll call everyone and made sure she extends her thanks.
Let’s please continue to pray and cheer her on!

HELP BERN CRUZ FULLY RECOVER FROM METHANOL POISONING
Meet Bern Cruz, one of the most passionate people you will ever know.
An adventurer and artist, Bern graduated from UP as a Fine Arts major. After college, she joined the Redbull team and just recently took a leap of faith to start her own business.
She was off to a great start, until methanol poisoning put her life to a halt.
Last June 24, 2019 she attended a bridal shower at Xavier Ville. It was here that they opened a bottle of locally distilled gin. Despite the presence of other drinks on the table, Bern and a friend of hers, stuck to drinking the local gin.
The next day she started feeling dizzy and was non-stop barfing despite not having eaten the whole day. She was rushed to the hospital by her boyfriend and upon reaching the Emergency room, started experiencing seizures and went straight into a coma.
After 3 days of uncertainty, she started waking up. The doctors have since then confirmed that Bern was victim to Methanol Poisoning. After doing tests on the local gin, The FDA has also confirmed that said gin had high levels of methanol.
We are thankful that despite this, Bern is on her road to recovery. However, even with dialysis and other treatments, her motor skills remain gravely affected and her vision has not yet fully recovered. To ensure full recovery, Bern will need support to undergo physical therapy and other tests. Currently, she has no insurance or health benefits and her current hospital bills are piling up.
On top of that, Bern will need to take a rest for at least 3 months to recover. As a budding entrepreneur this means that she will have to put her projects to a pause, and in return will affect her income.
We are thankful for the ongoing support of Bern’s family and friends who have generously given their time, prayers and support. She is indeed a good artist, a great friend, a loving daughter, a doting aunt to her 3 nephews and a driven woman who was just stepping into her dreams when this incident put her life to a halt.
Despite the negligence of the local gin company, we believe that Bern, along with the other victims will recover from this with the grace of God and the support of those around them.
If you wish to journey with us through this ordeal, any amount of help, support and prayers are appreciated
If you wish to contribute directly, here are her bank details
