Help Belinda get Emergency Open Heart Surgery and Aftercare

My name is Belinda Mitchell my family describes me as a loving mother of 3 children: ages 26yrs, 24yrs, and 12yrs old. Also is a loving sister, niece, cousin and friend to many!! I reside in Trinidad and Tobago with my 3 children. As a single mother the pressure to provide for my children in the last few months without any employment led to my deep depression that caused me physical pain, but unknowingly to myself or our family would have caused 2 major heart attacks within a couple hours on Monday, September 25, 2023.

My doctors said I needed surgery for my heart “yesterday!!” The issue is they need funds upfront before a surgery date can be given.

There are several stories told by family members about Belinda’ s selfless acts of love and kindness ( Belinda’s aunt Lisa collected their responses).

Belinda’s eldest daughter Safia speaks about how her mom would give her last bit of money and do without… she had helped a co-worker who had several young children and had no money for groceries. Her older brother Neil shares about his sister helping to buy uniforms for the children’s cricket team in her old neighbourhood and says with his Trini accent”Dats the type of person she is!!”

As her aunt Lisa who is only four years older, ,”I have grown up with her like a sister and I just can’t imagine life without her in it. The joy, care and love that she has poured into the lives of all those who know her and her constant faith in God in spite of how dire things look, and her acts of love and kindness to everyone she crosses paths with is truly an inspiration !!”

Belinda’s cousin Ian describes her as “never judgemental , and someone who would give up her food for someone who is hungry.” Her cousin Alejandra, shares that “Belinda is beautiful inside and out, always prepared to be there, showing love and support as a daughter, mother, sister, cousin and friend” and she “prays Belinda will get the help she needs to continue being the beacon of light for so many and touching hearts as she has!!”

Belinda’s surgery is going to cost 500,000 TT dollars (US$75,000). The date of her surgery in Trinidad and Tobago is TBD ( to be decided). Belinda’s aftercare may cost another $150,000 TT dollars which will include some in-home assistance from a caregiver 1-2 weeks after surgery; clothing that will be helpful in her recovery include:

Medical Supplies that may be needed for her recovery includes:

Belinda will need access to healthy foods and also access to a healthy living environment with a walk - in bathroom shower that she will be able to access and place a shower chair into .
