Dear readers,

My name is Beatrice Cyprien. I am from Haiti. I live with my sister Audrey and our mom who's in wheelchair.

On January 12, 2010, our house was seriously damaged in the earthquake, mainly the roof. We lived with the stress of of seeing it collapse and kill us. We didn't find any help from the government. We continued to live in very tough conditions: neighbors throwing a lot of garbage in the garden daily, rain waters flowing indoor by the roof and walls, lack of essential goods, plus persecutions from neighbors: sexual violence threatening, insults...

Last year, a donor from U.S gave us some money to pay an apartment for one year and promised to keep helping us, but not long after we moved, he changed his mind and disappeared leaving us in an even more delicate situation.

We did not received enough help from our former donor to move to a good neighborhood, so we're facing the same situation in our new neighborhood. A family without a single man at home is not culturally acceptable. It makes us perfect preys for delinquents and all kind of mystic rumors. All that can turn into a very dangerous situation for our lives. Murders for mystical rumors have already happened in Haiti.

We were four women living alone, but two years ago, we lost our beloved sister Roxane. We did not have financial resources to provide her required medical care.

When our three brothers left the house one after the other, we understood that our situation would radically worsen. Only one of the gives us some financial help to survive, but it is largely under our needs. Our mom is older and doesn't have any medical surveillance.

She have not seen a doctor for a long time.

After our mom's stroke, in 1997, we still were at school Audrey and I, our father abandoned the family because he did not want to face his responsibilities toward his disabled wife. It did not take long for Audrey and I to understand that we will have to sacrifice our lives to take care of our mom. And we're still doing it.

Many people don't understand what gratitude means. She took care of us when we were kids, So we don't think it is too much to take care of her when she needs us the most. Although it ruined our lives, we feel proud of it and we still have dreams and goals in the future.

Our challenge is to find $10 000 in the next 3 months to pay a house for one year and move to a better neighborhood. It is very urgent!

In one year, we would want to raise enough funds, around $200 000 to buy a decent house (somewhere we could call home) and start a small businesse, so we could live by our own finances. It is really important as women in a country with so much gender discrimination to gender to be self sufficient.

We count on your generosity to help us reach our short-term goal and our huger goal.

Thank you for reading my story and supporting me!

Beatrice
