Help Bart and you’re helping Thailand.

Hello, my name is Bart Rigter, and I’m about to start one of the most difficult journeys in my life... my Ph.D. study in Education mastering in teaching and technology.

I’m working as an ESL teacher in Thailand since the year 2000. Over the past 20 plus years I’ve seen many foreigners from many, many different countries, teaching English in this beautiful country. And still Thailand is only ranking 74th out of 100 on the English First’s English-language proficiency index.Why is that the case? What are we doing wrong?

One of the answers is given to us by the British Council in Thailand:

“The proficiency of approximately 75% of English teachers in Thailand is below B1”.

During my Ph.D. studies I intend to focus on which teaching methodologies are helping our Thai learners with acquiring fluency in the English language.

And... what can we do to develop great English teachers from teachers with a limited ESL teaching experience in Thailand?

With my doctorate in education I intend to help the Thai people to gain insight into what can be done to improve the fluency in English of their learners.

The outcomes of my research will be beneficial for Thai schools, the Thai government, but also for foreign teachers planning a teaching career in Thailand.

However, I can not do this alone. I need help. Help from anyone who understands the value of English language education in Thailand.

Over the next 3 years I will be spending around US$ 20,000 on my Ph.D. But as an ESL teacher in Thailand, with a master in education (teaching and technology), my salary is around US$ 1,000 per month. That is enough for my daily expenses, but it is not enough to cover my university fees.

Therefore, I’m asking you... please donate some money and help me with my Ph.D. studies and you’re helping the Thai people gaining fluency in the English language.
