Help Baby Jaaziel Fight Spina Bifida

Good day everyone. Our son was born with spina bifida and is in urgent need of medical treatment. Spina bifida is a birth defect that occurs when the spine and spinal cord don't form properly.

There are three types of this defect. Jaaziel is suffering from myelomeningocele which is the most severe type of spina bifida. The spinal canal is open along several vertebrae in the lower or middle back. The membranes and spinal nerves push through this opening at birth, forming a sac on the baby's back, exposing tissues and nerves. This makes the baby prone to life-threatening infections and may also cause paralysis and bladder and bowel dysfunction. This condition however, can be corrected through surgery.

Due to this condition he is also suffering with brain fluid. The fluid needs to be drained urgently by inserting a shunt, which would also require surgery. This would release pressure on the brain and hopefully cause less damage.

If the surgeries are successful Jazaiel would require a number of rehabilitation treatments including physical therapy to aid in his mobility and day to day functioning.
