-I've been accepted to Boston University's Los Angeles Internship Program! For a full semester I will be earning 16 credits through taking three intensive classes focused on learning the entertainment industry from an advertising lens, as well as having a full-time internship at a top company in the SoCal area. While I am extremely appreciative and excited for this opportunity, I am realizing that I alone will not be able to meet all the financial mandatories to capsize on the program's potential. I need my friends and families' support (in all forms) in helping me achieve this goal.
-Your daughter, sister, friend and/or fellow human Asha I. Haki-Tyler!
-Anyone that knows me knows that since I've basically been able to walk and talk, it's been my dream to a) live in Los Angeles, b) be a part of the art or entertainment industry, and c) positively impact the world. This program is a real foundation in helping me achieve all three! Within 10 years I want to establish a successful image management firm that aims in supporting the endeavors of up and coming artists and entertainers through positively molding their reputation. By completing BU's program it will give me a real headstart in this.
-Additionally,while I have an AMAZING family that has supported me in every single way they can, they are not able to fully financially support this endeavor. Since coming to college I have basically been financially independent, and through work two+ jobs per semester, have been able to support myself. ANY contribution, whether it be $1 or $1 Trillion is greatly appreciated.
-I will be in Los Angeles from late August until the Christmas holidays! I am hoping to reach my goal by August 15th in order to be financially prepared in advance of my arrival.
-City of Angels (aka LA) :)
HOW WILL YOUR MONEY BE USED?
-Paying for my airfare from New York to LA, and then back to Atlanta once the program concludes -Funding for a rental car while I am in Los Angeles; from the program directors, to the program's alumni, to current LA residents, they all are strongly advising me that it is necessary for me to have a car while in Los Angeles. With insurance and through a BU discount I would be able to rent a car for $500 a month (close to $2,000 the entire duration of my stay).
PAYING IT FORWARD!
-I am a big supporter of reciprocity, and for every dollar contributed to my study abroad experience, I pledge to spend in minutes contributing towards bettering neglected neighborhoods in Los Angeles. I will volunteer my educational passions and communications skills through community service at a relevant and impactful nonprofit, and will be documenting my experience along the way.
