My name is Amenah Kassem, and I am twenty three years old. Two years ago, I graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory and Technology. However, finding a job opportunity using this degree has proved impossible for me. As a Palestinian refugee in Lebanon, I learned that I am now allowed to practice it legally, and the only places that hire Palestinians are already crowded with lab technicians and not looking.
It has been a struggle, and I have been juggling side jobs like tutoring privately and at after-school centers for a while now, but the pay is barely enough for living expenses, and I still have to get help from my parents to cover the rest. I am very burdened by now, and my parents cannot continue to afford paying for my living, especially that they have medical bills of their own.
Many people recommended that I change my academic path to something I can make a living off here in Lebanon. I was thinking about pursuing TDED (Teaching Diploma in Education) as it opens many doors for me here – however, my parents cannot afford the tuition at this point. I really want to work, build up my future, and start relying on myself instead of waiting for any of the other traditional options (parents, marriage…etc). I set this fundraiser to help kickstart that.
I know most of my followers cannot afford to help others, but a share might land this fundraiser on someone else’s wall who can donate.
Thank you for believing in me.
