Campaign Story
My name is Amari and I am a 25 year old first time pregnant mother. Im currently in my 2nd trimester and due May 6, 2023. I am creating this fundraiser to seek funding for my out of hospital birth.
I plan to give birth at a Black Owned Birthing Center in Los Angeles. I chose this route oppose to having a hospital birth because I believe for Black Women in todays society, it is a safer option to give birth the holistic way at home or via birth center. The Black Mortality Rate is at an all time high and Black women are nearly three times more likely to die or have to succumb to a negative delivery experience within the medical "hospital" field. Ive learned in school and through personal experience that Black bodies arent taken seriously within the medicial field more often than not. Our needs and concerns are often times overlooked resulting in us facing negative traumatic outcomes.
By delivering at a birth center, I personally feel safe and most comfortable giving birth there because I know all of my needs and concerns will be met, I will be in full control of my birthing experience, and most of all, I can birth in peace and let things flow how they are meant to naturally. I also have the opportunity to be surrounded by the people I love during my delivery. Giving birth is a very sacred experience and being in a calm, safe, and undisturbed environment is something I value the most.
Through midwifery care, I will be provided with prenatal and postnatal care, a curated birthing and postpartum plan, postpartum care between 3-6 weeks, childbirth and lacation education courses, nutrition support, physical and mental health support, required labs and ultrasounds. Unfortunately, the reality of giving birth in an out of hospital setting results in insurances not willing to cover midwifery/out of hospital birth fees. So I am seeking your help to reach my goal so that I can have the birth I desire at the KSLA Birth Center with my Midwives.
I appreciate all who have came across this, read my story, those who consider donating, or to anyone who may not even be in a place to but can share with anyone they know that may be able to. Any amount is very appreciated, no amount is too little, and it all means so much to my family and I. I am very grateful for your support, not only monetary, but also those who are supporting me through good intentions, love, encouragement, and positivity.
