Campaign Story
Hello everyone! My name is Aline Montenegro Araujo and I am a Brazilian 19-year-old girl who wants to study Astrophysics in the USA. Since I was 13, I've dreamt of going to an American college, since they are - in general - the best in the world!
And so, I began my journey: I participated and was awarded at several scientific olympiads - of Physics, Astronomy, Mathematics and even Robotics - had Violin classes and participated in a Model UN; I also engaged in voluntary activities, teaching Astronomy, Physics, and Mathematics - the subjects I am better at - to Brazilian students who didn't have access to proper education. Besides, I even interned in an astronomical observatory here in my city, where I assisted with open-public observations and astronomy-related classes. Last year, taking a gap year, I got a full scholarship to attend a seven-week Pre-College Intensive English Summer Program at The New School, in New York. It was part of a women's empowerment Brazilian program, sponsored by a company called National Steel Company (Companhia Siderurgica Nacional - CSN).
Therefore, I applied to some American universities, and have been accepted to study Astrophysics at three: Agnes Scott College, University of Colorado Boulder and Florida Institute of Technology.
But why do I want to study in the USA, instead of in my home country, Brazil? Well, besides of its current financial crisis, which greatly limits the funds for scientific research, an Astrophysics major isn't offered here. So, I am going after the best education in the world I can have to fulfill my desire of becoming an Astrophysicist.
Agnes Scott College is the one that gave me the best scholarship - of $25,000. Still, I am left to pay $32,000, but I can only afford $12,000. Thus, I am counting on anyone who can help me to make my dream of pursuing a degree in Astrophysics come true!
Thank you so much for your attention!
