On September 20th my sister Akanksha (26 yo), was diagnosed with Leukemia. As you can imagine, our family was shocked. I made this gogetfunding to help my family ease the burdens of the challenging days ahead.
I’m asking for your financial support for Akanksha’s medical bill and living expenses for her and my family. Please make a donation, no matter how big or small, to this fund. All the donations will go directly to Akanksha and my family while Akanksha is getting intensive treatment, which is anticipated to last many months.
At the beginning of September, Akanksha began experiencing intensive headaches on her right side, having issues with vision in the right eye, fatigue, high fever, and various other symptoms. Just to make sure it’s not COVID, we got her test done which came back negative. After going to numerous doctors and getting multiple blood work (someone the tests showed much more WBC than the upper limit), CT scans done, one of the oncologists suggested to get a bone marrow biopsy done as he suspected that it could be a case of blood infection or Leukemia.
On 18th September, Akanksha had a bone marrow biopsy done and on 20th September we went in to get the results of the biopsy and we were told that Akanksha had Acute Myeloid Leukemia and that she needed to be admitted to the hospital immediately to begin treatment.
Doctors have been positive about her diagnosis. She has already gone through one cycle of chemotherapy and was in the hospital during the entire month of October. We are proud of her for being strong this whole time. She will have to go through 3 more cycles of chemotherapy which will happen at the hospital in the next 3-4 months. This will go on for 2-3 years depending on how she responds to the treatment She will be admitted for the next cycle in the coming week and we feel confident about her short & long term care.
Akanksha’s job as a CS engineer is mentally demanding and the doctors don’t think she’ll be able to, nor should she, maintain that kind of workload for several months, maybe longer.
I used to work as an accountant but lost my job during the pandemic.
The COVID has hit our family hard financially and mentally. Between the loss of wages and the increasing medical costs, we're facing some financial challenges ahead.
Throughout all of this, we have remained hopeful. At the end of the day, I am confident that God sees us and is with us. She is very confident and positive and that’s what keeps us going too.
We are forever grateful for your support and prayers as our family gets through this journey.
