The worth of one's life is not measured by the amount of years that one lives , but by the amount of lives that one changes,

Problem Statement

Every year non-South African, African students at Stellenbosch University face a challenges when they have to register. The process of registering begins with the large amount of fees that needs to be paid. Furthermore, students and parents end up being disadvantaged and lose more money than they had saved due to different currency exchange rates.

Furthermore, non-South African, African students have limited access to bursaries and scholarships within South Africa as a whole. The lack of external financial support results in the non-South African, African students not being able to access tertiary education.

Lack of financial support, result in the aforementioned students going to lectures without stationery or any essential material needed for class. e.g. textbooks and would live on at most one meal a day some times.

Lack of financial support results in most non-South African, African students not performing optimally due to mental stress from financial hardships and consequently dropping out.

Life of a general Zimbabwean Student at the University of Stellenbosch

*Quite tough in general*

It is very hard to get a bursary because we aren't south African citizens

Financial burdens arise

* Types of hardships faced*

Financial which is the root cause of the other hardships like not being able to have enough to eat, not having money for transportation which forces them to walk long distances.

Accommodation is too expensive to pay for

*Negative effects*

Falls under Transport and accommodation: cant walk to school if the weather conditions are bad.

After walking a long distance, its hard to focus in class when you're tired.

Its hard to focus in studies on an empty stomach

*How come so many hardships*

All these hardships are beyond the student's control because the situation in Zimbabwe (economically) generally is terrible. The parents are struggling to pay the expensive school fees and cannot afford all the other needs.

Proposed Solution

This has been an ongoing problem for many years, consequently the International African Student community at the University would like to start raising funds to assist students in this time of despair.

We intend to help at least 10 Zimbabwean students to register.

We as African Student community would like to urge you for donations so that many African students can register in 2020 onward and study with peace on their minds.
We would like to plead for any amount of monetary donations. These donations will be directed towards non-South African, African students’ fees, welfare and sustenance at the University of Stellenbosch.

How the funds will be distributed?

The needs of Zimbabwean students will be meticulously researched through the direct involvement of the Student Representative Council and at least two University of Stellenbosch staff members. We will ensure that the most deserving students will be assisted through this trust fund.

The worth of one's life is not measured by the amount of years that one lives , but by the amount of lives that one changes,

Thank you for changing the lives of Zimbabwean students through your contribution.
