Help Adriyel Get Well

Update posted by Adriyel Paymer Kolpy On Aug 20, 2013

6 months of illness is taking its toll. I suffer from and am treated for depression already, but even with that I've hit a low place I've not seen in a long while. I'm having anxiety attacks again, have almost no appetite, and am struggling to get out of bed (and my airbed in my tent isn't even THAT comfy). I am still determined to get to the bottom of this, but my hope is being sapped.

Arrived safely in Minnesota, near Chaska/Jordan. It does not look like the Mayo Clinic will end up working out; since I'm not in as a patient yet, and am only here through Oct. 1, the timing seems unlikely. I am still seeking a doctor here, and other good healers too. Help?

I have officially exhausted the resources and knowledge of the doctor I have here in Castle Rock. She is a general practitioner, and has recommended that I see someone in internal medicine, but the one person she knew to refer me to does not accept patients without insurance.

I'm at a loss. Does anyone know a good doctor of internal medicine in the Castle Rock/Denver/Colorado Springs/Boulder area that might be willing to take an uninsured patient? Baring that, someone in the Minneapolis area (since that's where I'll be going next)?

Spoke with my doctor. All autoimmune tests came back negative. Epstein Barr test was positive, but not currently active, and since according to the CDC "95% of adults between 35 and 40 years of age have been infected" this means essentially nothing. The antibiotic has not affected my symptoms positively at all, if anything it's made things slightly worse. I am told this likely means they are not effective in treating whatever it is I have, as usually symptoms improve greatly within 72 hours (it's been 6.5 days).

I am now over 5 months and close to $1,400 (not including lost work and gas to and from doctors) in to this mystery illness. Even if this antibiotic works, there is still much healing to be done. I appreciate more than I can say all those who have helped me get this far (both financially and otherwise); I couldn't have done it without you.

This week I have the amazing luxury of staying with a friend in town, so I have air conditioning, a real bed, and electricity; a much easier environment for R&R as I finish this 10 day course of Levaquin.  So far today I feel less awful... here's hoping it's a trend.

Began taking my anti plague meds last Wed. evening.  By Thurs. afternoon my temp went up about half a degree, and my energy level dropped to almost nothing; it seriously took me 2 hours to eat a burger.  Managed to switch around my weekend work to half days, which is the only way I survived the weekend at all.  While on these meds I am told to avoid direct sun (as it causes severe photosensitivity) and to avoid any strenuous activity at all (tendon rupture is also a potential though unlikely side effect).  Good times.

More blood testing, this time checking for Epstein Barr (which will show up mono too), and several other tests that should show up any autoimmune problems.  Double vial draw this time, but I still managed not to pass out.  Banana split treat followed!  I still hate needles.

I went and saw a Chinese medicine doc up in Denver this morning. After an hour long interview she emphatically recommended a strong course of antibiotics. This is no small suggestion from someone who usually deals in herbs and natural healing. So this afternoon I went back to my doc in Castle Rock. We decided to take that recommendation and also kick things up a notch testing wise. I am now taking Levofloxacin, which is strong enough to be used to treat things such as anthrax and plague. If antibiotics can cure this, this one should do it. It feels good to be getting proactive again. Just hoping this round is effective...

White blood cell count still normal. Doc says this can happen when the body gets used to an illness, but it gives no clues as to what to look for next. We're going to try testing my thyroid next... Frustration level running very high right now.

To all of you who have contributed money so Adriyel can find the healing she needs, her dad and I (her mom) thank you from the bottoms of our hearts! It is very difficult being on the other side of the country from your child when she's so ill, and being unable to provide the daily support for her she needs. We hope she will soon be able to solve this mysterious illness and get well! Thank you again! Miranda and Phil
