Help a Venezuelan girl realize her dream by emigrating to Chile

My name is María Gabriela Paez, and I am 21. I was born and raised in Venezuela and I recently obtained my Venezuelan law degree, which took me many years of hard work to achieve. However, given the recent changes in Venezuela I don’t feel confident that I can practice law in this country. Therefore, I have reached a decision to emigrate from Venezuela. Making this decision was difficult. Not only will I leave my native country but also I will leave the home that I grew up in, my family and friends as well. However I truly wish to live in a better country. This was obviously a tough emotional decision to make as l leave my family and friends, but Venezuela’s political and economic crisis are making it difficult for a young person like me to see a future here.

We are going through a dramatic crisis that has no end in sight. We are a country full of natural resources yet we lack basic food and medical supplies. Crime is rampant, and in particular endangers the lives of young women like myself. I have therefore decided to move to Chile to start a new life. My plan is to live in a land that promises more political and economic freedom so that I can find new hope and send money back to my family to help support them. My younger brother in particular needs money to finish his education.

My goal is to raise $1100 to pay for my travel expenses to Chile and to pay for one month’s living expenses when I arrive there. I’m asking for a minimum amount of money just to get me started down this new path in my life. The economy is much different in Venezuela than it is in other countries. Right now I earn $10 a month as an office worker. It would take me years to save enough money to move Chile. With your donation, I am one step closer to living my dream.
