Introduction

My name is Moses Okeng from Lira, Northern Uganda, I'm the Founder and the Executive Director (Volunteer) for Support Orphans and Women Initiative- SOWI a registered Community based Non Profit Organization with Lira District Local Government with a vision 'Educated Poverty Free Community'.

Currently we are supporting 170 Needy Orphans in villages of Lango Sub Region, Northern Uganda with books and Pens to enable them go to school. The need is so much but because of limited funds and Donations both cash and in kind, we are able to help with the little we can. Northern Uganda suffered a set back of 20 years by Lord Resistance Army Rebels Insurgency that cost thousand of lives and caused high Poverty rate majority of families living in less than 1 dollar a day.

Project

SOWI is now promoting Beekeeping (Apiculture) among the Beneficiaries for Sustainability as Social Enterprise. We are using self help approach. Each Woman per child will be given 2 local beehive made from Local tree Stem as a kickstart which can produce up to 20kgs of honey a year, earning about $40 per harvest. Honey is harvested atleast twice a year earning about $80 per family. $40 is substantial to cover all the Educational needs of a child in the villages Per year which includes Educational kits and School fees In primary (Elementary School) and the remaining $40 will be reinvested for expansion to meet the future educational needs of the child. We have trained 170 families on beekeeping management just waiting for the beehive to get going. Honey is not only Nutritional but also medicinal. We are engaging on Beekeeping because it's easy to maintain and Honey, Propolis and Beeswax which are Bees products are very marketable. In Africa to begin Beekeeping, Beehive is required and a Place which is suitable, Local Honey Bees Just Comes in.

Note that all our team are volunteers meaning 90% of your donations will go straight to the project, only 10% on administration cost.

Please I welcome you to my cause lets join hands and Secure the future of this wonderful children. Support us in any way you can.
