Help Add More Years to Maribel’s Life

“Life is short” they say..

“..but we can fight to prolong it” I said..

May 2019, we were yet again struck with the worst news. Maribel Lacar was diagnosed with End Stage Renal Failure at the age of 27.

Dear everyone, my name is Tracy Abucay, her sister-in-law, asking for your gracious hearts to support her in her journey to undergo Kidney Transplantation and recovery.

Maribel was the youngest of the 7 siblings, and she is the THIRD person in the family who acquired the disease. We are repeatedly devastated, as her 2 older sisters have also died of Renal Failure. During the time when her 2 sisters were still living with the disease, she had to pause her studies to focus their finances for their dialysis treatments.

After her sisters’ deaths, the family got to move on and she was able to continue and finish her studies. After she graduated a degree in Education, she began to show symptoms. We were in denial, but fate has again played its game. After being diagnosed of her failing kidneys, she received a great news that she passed her licensure exam. She is finally a Teacher. But what could’ve been a triumphant day, led us to tears. Instead of kickstarting her career, she spent her days in a hospital and Dialysis chairs. She even attended her oath-taking ceremony with a Permacath on her right jugular, covered with a shawl.

We were determined to fight the odds for her, and race to getting her a new kidney. We cannot bear another one of our family to lose their life to this disease. June 2019, we started her and the donor’s medical screening for transplantation. But 2020 came with the pandemic, all provinces were on lockdown, and all our funds were depleted with repeated hospitalizations, dialysis sessions, blood transfusions and expensive medications. Her health insurance is often maxed out and her health is getting complicated. With bouts of depression, she tried to battle through her situation with a hopeful heart.

With the pandemic easing off, all hope is not lost. We would like to start again on her journey to get a new kidney and hopefully regain her health. She has a long road ahead, but with your generous help and support, we are hoping that she will be able to get back on her feet, pursue her profession as an Elementary Teacher and be able to teach young minds

And so we humbly like to ask for your financial support to aid her in her medical expenses. Any amount is greatly appreciated. If you are unable to donate, simply sharing our fundraiser would help us to spread our cause and hopefully reach more people.

Funds raised will be used to add to the costs of her transplant surgery, her lengthy recovery and a year-long expense of anti-rejection meds.
