I have been a political protester for over a decade, refusing to support a lot of the unconscionable things the U.S. government does.  If I financially supported it, I would become a party to things like the slaughter of Iraqi civilians and the domestic FEMA concentration camps.  For me this is plainly not an option, and so I live off the grid.  I work online, writing articles and building websites using a laptop.  It's not the best life to have, but it's the only option that doesn't involve partaking with things that are unconscionable and just plain wrong.

Just over a month ago I was eating dinner a the local shelter.  The shelter requires that people leave their belongings outside in order to eat, because there isn't a lot of space in the dining hall.  During the meal, someone took off with my backpack.  It had my essentials in it, including my $500 laptop.  They sold it for drugs, and I have no way to replace it.

$200 would buy a refurbished laptop online.  They will add $18 for shipping, $10 for environmental fees, and there will be an unspecified amount of sales tax that shouldn't be more than $20.  So I'm seeking a total of $260 to cover the PayPal and GoGetFunding fees as well.

With my laptop replaced, I'll be able to continue writing and building websites online.  I don't receive government benefits, making my online work my only means of support.  If you donate $75 or more, I am willing to build a basic site in Drupal for you, or for someone you know.  Webhosting costs for the site are not included, for obvious reasons.

Rewards

If you pledge $75 or more, I will build a basic website in Drupal for you, or for someone you know. I cannot pay for other costs the website requires, such as the webhosting or domain name registration fees. Drupal is more advanced than HTML, and good examples of a basic Drupal site would be a forum site or a blog site.

If you pledge $125 or more, I will not only build that basic Drupal site for you or someone you know, but will also assist you with the site's upkeep and maintenance for up to three years.

  • Sanjesh, I wanted to thank you and wasn't sure how until you commented! =) I just posted this project today, and it really does a lot for my confidence to have someone - especially someone I've never met - contribute, and so quickly! If you contact Megan Carlson at the Homeless Services Center ( http://scshelter.org/index.php?page=contact ) she can verify that I'm a client there who has had their laptop stolen recently. Not that you need to, but it's probably reassuring to be able to get back some verification. Thank you again. =) Be well, - Satori

  • Hey, you have a moving story and I wish you all the best. I never donate to people if they haven't already got donations from their own network (otherwise, they dont really have much credibility and who knows who they are!?). But after reading your fundraiser and articles on hubpages I just wanted to donate something, even though it's not much. All the best my friend.
