Please help support to extend the life of our beloved colleague and friend, Mr. Khampasong Ratsachack, a gifted lawyer and dedicated civil servant from Vientiane, Lao PDR. Khampasong is married and has three lovely boys aged: 16 years, 10 years and 5 years. He is known by many to be jolly, good-humored, honest, reliable and a family man, always lending support to anyone who needs him. My good friend Sabine and I are calling for your support and generosity to help our dear friend and colleague Khampasong to extend his life so he can be a father, husband, brother, son to his family and serve his country and people.

In 2015, both his kidneys started to fail including his health and physical well-being. At the moment, he needs regular dialysis to remove the toxins from his body, which costs 90 Euros each session. His monthly income as a civil servant including his wife’s income only amounted to 400 Euros a month and they have three children in school. For his dialysis, he has to cross the border to Thailand which is another added cost to his family’s meager salary.

If you haven’t heard of Lao PDR, it is one of the poorest and most heavily bombed countries in the whole world (http://www.nra.gov.la/uxoproblem.html). Khampasong has decided early on his career as a lawyer to help his country overcome its development and political challenges by working in the government (he is currently a Deputy Director General of the Justice & Inspection Committee at the Lao National Assembly where he served for 16 years).

For a successful kidney transplant operation, he is now seeking treatment in Germany where Sabine is currently helping him out with the medical procedure and other support. Further, Sabine’s brother, Dr. Oliver Eike is a nephrologist in Berlin, Germany and who help Khampasong with the surgery and early on, already waived his doctor’s fees. For Khampasong’s family, they have already raised 20,000 Euros by selling most of their properties in Lao PDR so Khampasong can have a successful operation in Germany. His sister, Nang Ratsachack, was identified as a suitable donor and will donate one of her kidneys.

Khampasong is planned to be operated at the Berlin Charite Hospital and will stay here after his operation. Although most of the doctors and nurses’ fees were reduced/waived, his regular hospital costs such as medicines, equipment, room, and other medical tests cannot be waived or reduced according to German law. A total amount of 56,000 Euros still needs to be raised for his hospital costs for his pre and post-operation.

Kidney transplant is the only possible way for Khampasong to live a normal life. My former colleagues and friends who knew and worked with Khampasong would like to see him continue his excellent work at the Lao parliament, and also would love to see him continue being a loving and dedicated father and husband to his family.

Please note that all support will be documented properly and donors/supporters will be updated with Khampasong’s progress before and after the operation.

As we say in Laos, Sabaidee and Khob Chai Lai Lai (hello and thank you very much!) for your kind support and attention. God bless you.
