Background

We are a community with a disadvantaged life back here in Shanderema,Kakamega,Kenya. You see, the children, the women, and the elderly the men are very hardworking and would be more than willing to access open opportunities so as to progress in life. But you know or you have heard how it is: government empty promises, on top of it, is corruption in the first place, have combined to make it impossible for many to progress and sustain themselves. Unless someone steps in to help.

Established officially in 2014 not just to support families and schools, but to develop a sustainable model which can continue working without us, to give everyone in our community access to decent livelihood.

Kakamega is located in the western part of Kenya, and it is comprised primarily of forests and mountainous regions. Usable water sources are extremely limited. Therefore, water sources are often five to 10-20 kilometers away from the villages, so the water supply to our local community is in extremely poor condition . Under these conditions, the Samsay Self Help Group, with the objective of improving water supply conditions in rural areas, requests funding from our well wishers in order to establish and improve water facilities in our rural villages.

What we would like to achieve in this Project?

To ensure that the construction of the borehole and water supply facilities are completed and delivered to the community according to plan in the expected time period. To improve and increase the condition of water supply in our rural village.

What we are going to do?

-Hire equipment to survey underground water.

-We are going to build a water point source, a borehole, it will be dug deep in the ground and it will be potentially be piped typically to serve everyone.

-Install Water supply equipment (pumps and generators).

-Establish a system for the maintenance of water supply facilities.

Why is it important to start the Project?

The provision of safe and acceptable drinking-water of sufficient quantity frequently represents a challenge to small scale water supplies. Experience has shown that our community is more vulnerable to diseases breakdown and contamination.

This project is important because it will provide safe and acceptable water for human consumption that is available in sufficient quantity, physically accessible and affordable is a crucial prerequisite for human well being.

Access to safe water is not only fundamental to good health but also to satisfactory livelihoods, dignity and prospects for economic growth and education. The lack of access to sufficient amounts of safe water leads to human suffering and to loss of human potential which is ethically indefensible as well as economically wasteful.

What will be the impact?

During the project implementation, all user communities will be involved to build sense of ownership. The executed project will benefit all members of the society (men, women, children, boys and girls). Hygiene and sanitation education will also be given for all.

The project will improve the health status, reduce women work load and provide time to get engaged in agricultural and other income generating activities. It also reduces the medication costs. In general it will increase the overall production and productivity of the the whole community.

How are we going to make it sustainable?

In order to improve the current situation, it is necessary to maintain dialogue with the villagers, to organize water management committees that involve the villagers, and to introduce a scheme in which the beneficiaries share the costs.

A water utilities fee will be collected from each individual from the village. There will be a water management committee organized to maintain the project activity. The fee will be used to maintain structural and mechanical adjustment and most importantly the supply of fuel for the pumps.

The promotion of dialogue with local community is extremely important to ensure good use of and sustainability of established facilities.

We need your help to continue delivering long-term solutions to poverty to ensure that the people in our community can be able to sustain themselves .The more money you raise for Samsay Self Help Group the more people we are able to help.

Many Thanks and Stay Blessed!
