Meet my good friend Esther Caroline Acom – a young, 27 years old woman from Uganda who has a lot of potential. Her dream is to open her own business at home. Unfortunately she can’t do it on her own and needs the support of you, kind and generous people.

Her grandma, who raised her and whom she considered to be her mom, was diagnosed with cancer in 2015. That forced her family to take out big loans both from the bank and the locals to pay for the treatment. Even though the (grand)ma unfortunately died a while ago, those loans are still a big struggle for her. Caroline had to leave her life in Uganda and find a job abroad.

She came to work in Oman as a house maid on 14/03/2018, but things did not work out how she though it would. Sadly, the promising job offer she accepted in order to pay off the loans ended up being a fraud and a nightmare… Her salary is twice as small as promised, sometimes going many months without pay. She has no free time, not enough food, no access to medicine or her own documents and she receives constant verbal and psychological abuse from her bosses. She couldn’t find a way to protect her rights or get her documents back and get a better job, so she has been tolerating that abuse for 4 years now.

Sadly, her mother had also passed away earlier this year and she could not even attend her funeral. Now, after all this time, she finally has hope to leave the toxic environment. However, the years of suffering have had a strong impact on her physical and mental health. She has an undiagnosed and untreated illness in her throat, which has damaged her everyday life and ability to eat or swallow properly. It’s been there for a few years now and is getting worse. She also has burns from working accidents and overall weakness and underweight from years of untreated illnesses and malnutrition. Surviving in those conditions, while trying to provide for her family has also taken a huge toll on her mentally, which has caused depression and burn-outs.

That’s why Caroline won't be able to start a new job even if she manages to leave her toxic workplace. Instead she wants to go home and see a doctor as fast as possible.

Nevertheless, the money lenders are getting impatient and are demanding to get their money back. She also has a brother who has a degree in civil engineering but unfortunately due to the severe lack of workplaces in the country, there are still no jobs for him. So Caroline’s hard work has been the only stable income for taking care of the whole family and allowing her young siblings to go to school. Combined with the lenders breathing down her neck, they desperately need a higher and healthier income. And that’s why we are asking for your help!

Caroline wants to start a money exchange business with her family. That business is considered to be a high-earning business in Uganda and it would allow them to earn money while she gets some time to rest and recover. However, starting the business requires funds that her family doesn’t have. That’s why we really need YOUR help to collect the 2000 euros, which is all they need to start. Getting that business would completely transform their life, so every dollar, euro, shilling or any currency will help tremendously. Please help in any way you can!

Caroline’s current job contract is ending on the 14th of November 2022 and she has already gotten a plane ticket for that day. She couldn't choose the date and she also cannot afford to miss the flight. That's why she really-really needs that money to go home worry-free and get that business going. Without it her family will lose all income. So please, if you can afford to donate anything, do it as fast as possible. Anything will help. Don't forget to share her story as well. Let's get as much help as possible!

If we manage to exceed the goal, all the extra money will be used for the medical costs and to pay the loans or Caroline’s young siblings’ school fees.

Thank you SO much for all your donations, prayers and shares!
