My boyfriend (Stephen Lenard Corpus) was diagnosed with acute myeloid leukemia (AML) on January 2018. Adult Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) is a cancer of the blood and bone marrow. This type of cancer usually gets worse quickly if it is not treated. In his case, his body produces White Blood Cells rapidly resulting to high level of immature WBC in his system. The treatment plan is to suppress his immune system and inhibiting the production of WBC. His maintenance for his condition is Veenat (Imatinib) which is not available in the Philippines but he found a patient with the same condition who purchases the drug in bulk and sell some of it to his fellow warriors.

On the other note, my mother (Eufemia Santiago) was also diagnosed with Breast Cancer last February 2018. She underwent Mastectomy and several tests. Mastectomy is the medical term for the surgical removal of one or both breasts, partially or completely. We have consulted 2 different oncologists for treatment plan after the surgery but my mother is not in favor of chemotherapy and radiation due to the negative effects to the body. She chose naturopath/naturopathy treatment. Naturopathy is a system of health care which promotes the body’s own self-healing mechanism. It uses natural therapies such as Nutrition, Herbal Medicine, Acupuncture, Homeopathy, Hydrotherapy, Physical Manipulations, Colonic Irrigation, Fasting, Exercise and others, following Naturopathic principles. In short, she wants to be healed without the use chemicals/toxic drugs in her body. But this kind of treatment is also expensive as he usual chemotherapy treatment. She still maintains a daily dose supplements prescribed by the naturopath practitioner, follows a strict diet, cleansing sessions and laboratory check ups to check if her body is responding well.

In our country where people have low income rate, getting sick with expensive maintenance could be a great battle not only for one's life but a financial battle for the whole family too. What more if your 2 loved-ones are confirmed cancer patients. It was never an easy situation. Still thankful that there are people who gave their support thru prayers, who gave comfort during the acceptance period, encouragement that sickness is part of living, and of course those who have reminded us that God is bigger than our problems.

Fighting cancer is like a test on how far can you fight for your life. These warriors are fighting because of their family, our family. Nobody wants to lose a family member. We all want our families complete. Help us sustain their needs through you donations.
