Would you like to help me realise my dream to become a trained fine artist in return for my work once I’ve completed my training? One of the tutors at the Royal Academy of Arts, a couple of years ago, had encouraged me to take up drawing and painting in a serious way, based on a few workshops I had participated in, organised by a charity for single homeless people. He told me I had the ingredients for what it takes to become a good artist and that he was impressed by the progress I had made in the short time which he had not seen in anyone else. He urged me on a number of occasions that I must continue with it.

I did that drawing of apples and mice in my third drawing class ever since primary school. I know that a trained, experienced artist could produce something much better in a couple of minutes but for an absolute beginner I think it’s not too bad. I also did a 45 minute painting in one of the workshops. Paul, the tutor, picked out that painting for the end-of-year exhibition and I was told that he had also picked out other pieces of my work for the exhibition but he was prevented from doing so in the interest of fairness to the other participants. The charity haven’t returned that painting, otherwise I would have posted an image for you to see.

I cannot afford to go to art school and I would not feel justified to raise funds for art school but I could get trained via an online atelier that provides excellent, thorough training in fine art for £118/$150 a month: https://www.wattsatelier.com/ With £12,000 I could become a trained artist over three years if I go and live abroad where the cost of living is very low. I had India in mind but I would consider other options. With soaring rents here in London it’s difficult for me to save all the funds I need.

The cost of 36 monthly payments of £118 to the online atelier, accommodation at £80 a month x 36 months would add up to £7128. The £5000 left would cover the other living costs over three years. With your help I could liberate the time I would need over the three years for my training. I would need to make a couple of visits a year back to London to get my work critiqued, but I would use my own savings for that.

As long as I have an internet connection, plenty of time, and a load of pencils and paper I could get formally trained as a fine artist. Most of the training would be in drawing so materials would be cheap (pencils and paper). The method taught at this atelier makes the transition seamless from pencil to paint. Painting would be about one fifth of the work.

Of course, my work will continue to improve for years to come once I’ve completed my formal training, but as a way to thank all my donors I would be honoured to let you have some of my work.
