Together for Eduardo! CANCER (DSRCT)

My name is GHETU ILIE (61 years) from Galati, ROMANIA, Str Domneasca nr. 72, Tel 0040 0741011110, father of a 23-year old boy, GHETU IOAN EDUARDO, student in the final year at Danubius Faculty of Galati, section Economic Sciences-Tourism and employee-collaborator of the Galati Musical Theatre, as he graduated „Dimitrie Cuclin” High School of Music and Arts from Galati.

I will tell you a short “story” (if it might be called as such) that, unfortunately, changed the entire course of our family life as of July this year.

EDUARDO, our son (ILIE and CARMEN), has always been a model, dutiful, tenacious and hard-studying child who loves people, who is sociable, religious and especially a great supporter of monarchy, being an example even to his colleagues. As his parents, we wanted him to have the most distinguished and proper civic education.

One fine day, namely 24 July 2015, after a CT scan, everything started crumbling along with finding EDUARDO’s diagnostic that stunned everybody: Abdominal Cancer. Actually, the alert was raised a few months before when he accused a more bulged belly, due to which reason he would go to gym to reduce it, the disease being entirely asymptomatic. Other small symptoms like the intestinal disturbance made us go to the ecograph and CT. Thus, a tumor of 14.5 cm/80 (8?) cm was found in an inoperable area. We immediately rushed to Fundeni Bucharest Hospital, to Dr. Mihnea Ionescu for a consultation, who initially scheduled him for a “laparoscopic” biopsy but eventually the decision was made to make an incision of around 13-15 cm in order to visualize and sample everything. Thus, the biopsy initially indicated the diagnostic of WELL-DIFFERENTIATED NEURO-ENDOCRINE TUMOR AND MULTIPLE PELVIC METASTASES, other organs being unaffected. But the greatest “thunder” came from the immunohistochemistry result that indicated the diagnostic of DESMOPLASTIC ROUND CELL TUMOR (DSRCT), being practically the 4^th known case in Romania and about 12-15 cases per year worldwide, only a few hundreds of cases being known in the specialty literature. Basically, it is a soft-tissue, extremely aggressive sarcoma that appears in the Caucasian males by the age of 30 with a quite reserved diagnostic, but there are also survivors who practically encourage us to not abandon the fight.

As such, he was transferred to the Oncology Section of Fundeni Hospital Bucharest where the attending physician is Mrs. Dr. Croitoru who in the second half of August 2015 already administered him the first “round” of cytostatic. As the disease cannot be cured by target molecules, cytostatics are practically administered in a general manner.

At the end of August 2015 we transferred him to Humanitas Clinic in Milano where we know some cases of curable sarcoma. Thus, in early September we went to the Humanitas Hospital in Milano. Another re-assessment was made, which unfortunately indicated the same diagnostic (DSRCT)

A new chemotherapy session was initiated (after 21 days), that was different from the one in Romania and much more responsibly administered. This encouraged us to remain there. The initial purpose was to make 8-10-12 chemotherapy session that would force the tumor into remission 60/70%, then to be surgically removed by a newer method called HIPEC, which anyway was impossible in Romania – maybe in Italy, Freiburg, Regesburg-Germany and the best, with GREAT RESULTS for this disease, at MD ANDERSON-HOUSTON TEXAS HOSPITAL-US or the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, New York-US where there are teams of competent physicians for this disease. Here and not only here, for the assessment, the minimum deposit is unfortunately minimum 30,000$, not to mention the treatments and operations that might go beyond 300.000$. Unfortunately, we are still living on Earth the age of money, humanitarianism coming second. Such amounts exceed by far our financial possibilities, our budget. We have the house in Galati where we live that we put up for sale but, unfortunately there are neither buyers nor bidders. We have spent for my boy’s health over 150,000 Euro, and I am telling you that it has been very difficult for my family and me (I am a public officer – local counselor – at the Galati City Hall with a small budgetary salary.

To put it otherwise, the story of my son, IOAN EDUARDO GHETU, is updated. He underwent 10 sessions of chemotherapy in Italy at I.C.HUMANITAS Milano, but unfortunately the last chemotherapy sessions no longer worked and he is not yet eligible for surgery. He returned to Romanian and can only undergo treatment with an oral, maintenance cytostatic called Votrient-Pazopanib, which costs 6,000 Euro per month. Medically speaking, the danger still exists. He is also undergoing a strict naturist treatment and an adaptable diet. We are in praying groups both in the Orthodoxy and other classical confessions. His condition has relatively improved and he is undergoing energetic unblocking and psychotherapy sessions. We are awaiting a miracle as it happened in the world, in Romania and many other corners of the world.

I strongly believe that God exists beyond any doubt and we are certain He will perform a miracle.

From the viewpoint of the “holy medicine”, we will make another CT at the end of September to check his condition and whether he becomes eligible for the surgery. We sent to the US “Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center” his medical sheets to check if he can become eligible for surgery, further to special treatment with antibodies and vaccines that may bring him to the surgical stage, with the best specialists in the world for this tough diagnostic, but the expenses exceed 300,000$, as neither Romania nor Europe have this kind of treatment protocols with the USA. Honestly, we cannot sit and wait for him to die away by our side.

As to the financial side, without victimizing ourselves, we are quite poor, without accounting for the classical and naturist medicines that must be taken monthly…and which don’t come cheap. With my help and that of his girlfriend and two former colleagues from Galati Musical Theater, we created a Humanitarian Association called: “PEOPLE FOR YOU”, where I am a member of honor and we are still trying to raise funds. In fact, the association sets out, in time, to establish a research and diagnostic clinic, entirely free of charge, here in Galati, such as the network of Clinics and Hospitals “St. Jude” from USA, where unfortunately we could not go, as the waiting list is too long. I have proposed to dedicate myself to this project for the remainder of my life, besides the other daily, classical preoccupations.

Only those going through such limit situations (we don’t wish them to anybody) can unfortunately understand the delicate situation we are going through. Unfortunately, 1/4 of the world population (closing in alarmingly quickly to 1/3), fall victim to this unstoppable pest of the 21^st century, which is more or less aggravating and with quite reserved prognosis. A shame to mankind that set its foot on the Moon, or perhaps there are more obscure interests ..?!?
