What and Why:
The main element to this fundraiser is to help pay for my school at a local 2 year college. ASU-Beebe is the only college that is certified in Arkansas for the Veterinary Technician program. A Veterinary Technician is like a nurse that helps the Veterinarian with the animals and procedures. I chose this profession since I find myself passionate about animals and in my volunteering at the local Vet Clinic, I find myself truly enjoying the work day to day. I choose to go to school and find a job because I want to ensure my children's future and to care for animals in ways I can't do only as a pet owner. I hope to be able to donate my time to non-profit organizations, and local shelters, when they need a Veterinary Technician to help out and to work in a Vet's office to earn a good income.
I am unable to pay for college myself because I have already obtained an Associates of Arts at ASU-Beebe. This is because FASFA has a clause where I cannot obtain two AA or two Bachelor Degrees and So on. If there was a Bachelor degree for Veterinary Technician in Arkansas, I would apply, however I find myself unable to qualify for FASFA or Scholarships. While in the Army I did attempt to prepare for college again, however I am unable to use my GI Bill to cover the entire expense of school and I need the extra money before I can attend.
How your money will Help!:
The breakdown of where your money will go!
The Vet Tech program at Beebe is a 5 semester program. 2 Fall semesters, 2 Spring semesters and 1 Summer Preceptorship semester. Of the classes required for each semester and fees the school charges, I am in need of $7,105 for Tuition and fees alone when added up in 2011. I am responsible for the extras required for the program that include, and are not limited to: Scrubs, Drug Test, VTNE test (to become certified) Books for each semester, and Required Field Trips. I have also considered gas costs into the remaining $2,895 as well because it is a 56 Mile round trip to commute to the school. I know costs will go up by August of 2013 but I am hoping to be able to absorb the extra costs in what I can receive of my GI Bill.
Reward Details:
I am extremely grateful for any donation I may and will receive. Unfortunately I cannot offer T-shirts or wristbands, but I intend to send Thank You cards to people who donate. I may put below a limit on the donation for a card, but depending on the number of donators I will try to send one to everyone. I intend to give back to the community as well. I want to donate my time and knowledge to the local animal shelters, and people who need advise but don't need a Veterinarian. I intend to give updates on Facebook and YouTube on my progress in school. I don't believe I will have problems with my school work since I achieved a high GPA when I graduated with my first degree.
