My best friend Sam Cash who lives in Hampshire has been diagnosed with a rare form of cancer; as a result she needs lifesaving treatment only available in America.

On the 27th February, 2014, she will undergo brain surgery in the UK which will attempt to remove some of the cancerous tumour. As a consequence of this she has been told by the doctors treating her to expect full loss of hearing in her right ear. However, this is only stage 1 of a long road of harrowing treatment she has to face.

Once she has recovered from that initial operation, she will have to travel to America for specialist radiotherapy which is unfortunately not available in the UK. The NHS have advised they will pay for Sam and her carers flights to Jacksonville and put her up in basic accommodation for which she is immensely grateful. However, with very limited resources they cannot/are unable to pay for living costs such as food, transportation to and from the hospital every day or for her children to visit her during the entire 3 month course of treatment – this is where we need your help.

Let me tell you a bit about Sam and her family to give you an idea of the type of person Sam is and how dearly we all love her.

Sam is 40 years old and she has been married to Paul for 5 years. They have two wonderful children, Taylor, 12, and Alyssia, 3. Both Sam and Paul have worked and lead an ordinary average life before she fell ill, this news really did come as a bolt out of the blue. Sam is understandably very scared about what the future holds, made worse by the fact she has witnessed the pain and suffering her own father went through when he fought a brain tumour for over 10 years and then sadly passed away at 43 years of age. Ironically Sam has been told by her doctors this is not a hereditary condition but just pure chance and bad luck!

All of her friends and family are doing their best to raise as much as they possibly can with sponsored events and personal donations but all are just ordinary working people who simply don’t have the funds to pay for it outright.

Sam is too proud to ask for money herself but I know to give her the best chance of a full recovery she needs to be able to see her children during the treatment, no matter how brief the visit would be I know this would give her the extra energy needed to fight the dreadful side effects of the radiotherapy.

Any donations raised would be used solely for living expenses I mentioned previously and to enable Taylor and Alyssia to visit Sam at some stage of the treatment.

Please help make this possible. Any donation, no matter how small will give us a chance to raise the funds needed to make this possible.

God Bless you and thank you for taking the time to read this. Please do whatever you can to help.

  • I read your article in the local gazette, if it wasnt the gazette i wouldnt have known. All the times the boys (your husband and son) have been into the chippy and never said anything. I always ask hows things, have you settled into your your new home etc.. etc.. Im not at the chippy no more, but my customers meant alot to me and knowing you are going through so much. My donation isnt alot, but its something towards your fund. Will be thinking of you and your family.
