Heart surgery for Fred Angeles

Update posted by Penny Angeles Tan On Aug 06, 2018

Dear family, friends, and prayer warriors,

Dad is currently confined at Delgado Hospital in Kamuning because he had a very bad asthma attack yesterday. He will be staying there for at least 4 days.

He was supposed to go the Heart Center today to get his surgery schedule but I guess that is pushed back again. The doctors can't do anything until he is better. He has recovered from the respiratory infection but the constant change in weather does not help make breathing easier for him.

We continue to ask for your prayers and support for dad.

Father God,
We lift up Fred Angeles who is facing illness today. We ask that You bring healing, comfort, and peace to his body. Calm his fears and let him experience the healing power of Your love. In Jesus’ name, we pray.
Amen.

Dad and mom came from the doctor today. On Monday they will be meeting with the team of doctors that will be doing his surgery to set a schedule for the procedures. According to dad they will do the angiogram and the general ablation on the same day.

In the meeting on Monday they will let us know what to expect when dad goes through the procedure. We still have a ways to go in terms of funding but, hopefully, with everyone's help through donations, talking to agencies that can help, and prayers, that we will be able to raise the needed funds in time.

We continue to ask for your prayers.

Fingers crossed, everyone!

Our next consultation is on July 30. This is for the ablation already. Hoping we can get a schedule then. Right now, Fred has a cough. He is now under medication. We fervently pray he will be well before July 30.

Update on Fred. We have been accepted in social services. So, we can avail of discount. Frustration! They don't say how much! BUT here is the catch. We have -to go thru the whole rigmarole again of doctor's consultation and tests.

We thought that because the consultants said that he has to have an ablation, that's it. But no, the OPD doctor said they have to do their own evaluation. It's a good thing we àlready had the 2D echo and halter.

We are due back for consultation on Mon. Our personal cardio said magtiyaga lang Kami. Bèing accepted in social services is a big thing, and being attendeď to at once. She said there are some who wait months.

Dad's doctors allowed him to go home yesterday rather than stay in the hospital to wait for his surgery schedule. This was in an effort to minimize this hospital expenses. However, we were given strict instructions that he had to be on oxygen 24/7 which meant that we needed to have 2 large tanks and one small tank (for traveling) prepared before he would be allowed to go home.

Thankfully we already have one tank and, through the generosity of the Bicol Angels and the Quintoses (Tita Mely, specifically) we will have all three required tanks by later today.

In the meantime, we hope that dad does not suffer in this erratic weather and end up having to go back to the hospital again so soon.

As per our last conversation with dad's cardiologist, Dr. Rowena Rebollido, his first procedure will most likely be scheduled for 2nd week of July. Let us continue to pray for dad's good health. Thank you all!

Early last night we received some good news. Dad was stable enough to move pending the instruction of Dr. Punzal, dad's pulmonologist and primary physician. We were given two options, bring him home and allow him to wait at home for the surgery schedule or wait at the hospital for the transfer to the social welfare ward.

When Dr. Punzal came by and checked in on dad he recommended that dad just stay put because if he leaves the hospital he would have to line up again and it will take time to get him a bed again. So, there you have it, folks. We are still in the same ward until further notice.

Here are the things they will do with dad:

  1. they will do an angiogram to see if he needs stents in his heart.
  2. if they confirm the need for the stents then he will have an angioplasty.
  3. next they will do general cardiac ablation. In this procedure they will insert catheters from dad's groin area (legs) all the way up to his heart and will burn away any and all blockages they will encounter along the way.
  4. and because of his advanced age the doctors feel he will have to have one more surgery after that ... atrial fibrillation ablation.

So, there you have it, folks. It looks like dad is going to be at the hospital for longer than we hoped for. Let us all pray for his health and optimism.
