Fighting Hunger With Laughter

TOGETHER WE CAN ELIMINATE HUNGER.

Hi. I'm David Cornel. I'm one of the lucky ones. I have been fortunate to make a living as a stand up comedian for over 25 years. But over the last two years I have become aware of a crisis in Canada. Every month over 850,000 people go to food banks in our country. One third of them are children. This is just wrong and I'm determined to change it.

THIS IS HOW I'M STARTING THIS MISSION.

I produce, promote and perform a comedy show called AN EVENING IN YOUR TOWN. It's a fun and funny, live, all local, late night comedy talk show! Just imagine if Stephen Colbert came to your town (but with less hair... and not so famous) and all of his guests were from your town and his jokes were written for you... and well, you'd have my show.

ALL OF THE PROCEEDS GO DIRECTLY TO THE LOCAL FOOD BANK.

According to Food Banks Canada; one dollar provides three meals. Each of my shows will create over 5000 meals for local food banks. With 12 shows a year more than 65,000 meals will reach those who need them across Ontario. My goal is to bring this total even higher over the next few years ultimately reaching out to audiences across Canada

Why is this so important?

Between 340,000 to 375,000 people use a food bank just in Ontario alone every month.

More than 1/3 of those served are children? That's 131,723 children needing food banks every month; the size of a small city!

More and more seniors are going to food banks to make ends meet.

The people who go to food banks may not be who you think they are. They are your neighbors, your friends, your co-works and a thousand other people you see every day but don't know are struggling just to get enough to eat!

"There are many misconceptions about who it is that visits a food bank, and this year’s Hunger Count continues to confirm that food bank clients are not who you think. Foodbank clients are men, women, children, students, and seniors living across Ontario in both rural and urban communities. Many have post-secondary educations, are working full or part-time, or have recently retired, but are still having trouble making ends meet each month." OAFB

We have a major crisis in Canada. If even one person can't get enough food to eat we need to change it.

YOU CAN BE THE SOLUTION!

I sincerely believe we can eliminate hunger in Canada and I invite you to join me in this great effort.

But I need your help. The money you provide will go towards the production and promotion of the first three shows. After that there will be enough momentum to continue producing one show at least every month.

I'm also hoping to film and edit each show so that I can put them online as a 'TV' show. This way even more people will be aware of the great need in our country and even more money will be raised.
