My name is Jon Sexton. Four Years ago I was diagnosed with a rare brain infection and was told I had at most a eight months to a year to live. That was like a kick in the gut! What do I do? How do I prepare? Is this really the END? I couldn't accept that! I had had a successful career in IT, I ran my own business for 10 years until I was forced to reevaluate my entire life. With the help of my family and close friends we began researching every natural remedy that may provide me with MORE time. My best friend Tara, CEO/Founder of cancercrackdown.org was by my side throughout my journey. We started talking with naturopaths all over the country since conventional treatments were not available. After talking with dozens of practitioners, the common denominator was large amounts of micronutrients and supplements. With Tara's help we designed a nutrient - supplement protocol that we believe led to my successful recovery. The thing that my body needed the most was a large steady supply of freshly juiced organic fruits and vegetables. Ready to do whatever it took to live, I reached back to my knowledge I acquired as a kid growing up, I turned my front yard into a garden. This gave me something to focus on other than what the doctors said would be my last year on earth. I started planting seeds, in my mind and my front yard. The therapy I gained by being out in the sun and the dirt provided my body with vitamin D from the sun, the grounding "earthing" from being barefoot in the soil and HOPE.
In 2014 Tara ask my help in creating similar gardens for people she was helping to fight Cancer. That was when I knew my calling had taking on a whole new direction. HOW CAN I SERVE? I could take my true passion for gardening and by example and first hand experience GIVE other people facing life threatening illnesses HOPE.
I live in a Community of 212 homes. My goal is to create a community of home gardens where we can share the benefits of working together, growing our own Organic, nutritional dense, Whole foods. I want to share the healing benefits of gardening and eating Whole foods that have been grown just 30 Steps from their kitchen.
I have leased my home from a very generous lady, Claire who has never raised the price on me. I am grateful for her generosity. I had an agreement with her to purchase this house after leasing from her for one year. At the end of that year was when I was diagnosed. I had to sell my business quickly. Not being of a clear mind in the moment, my business was sold at a loss.
My only income now is my Social Security Disabilty. I am trying to raise $7,500 to pay off my remaing bills to be able to purchase this home from Claire so I may continue creating similar gardens in this community. My goal is to create 10 gardens over the next 5 years in this community so every person here has access to fresh, Locally grown, Organic foods.
