Campaign Story
Josefina Mixto, or simply Josie as she was called by people who loved her, is a loving daughter, sister, wife and mother of two angels. She is a simple and successful home maker who had raised two beautiful and strong daughters and a strong supporter of her husband while still manage to be a sister and daughter who you can count on.
I have to agree that not all heroes wear cape and is tasked to save the world, Josie for us is a hero that dedicates her life for her family and for the ones she loves while wearing those angelic smile and brightening other people's day by her contagious giggles.
Yes, this is a typical housewife story but every story has its own turning point.
Recently, she spent a couple of weeks in a medical facility because of her difficulty in breathing later found out that is due to massive pleural effusion - a condition wherein the lungs were covered with water. We followed the doctor's advice to determine the cause of accumulation of water, several tests were conducted in parallel to a minor surgery to drain out the said fluid. We were all looking forward that after the fluid was withdrawn from her body, we can all pack our things, head home and return to our daily routine and yet none of us had a glimpse of what had happened next.
All the diagnostic and confirmatory tests lead on a single finding - Metastasized Stage 4 Lung cancer. We were totally caught off guard because of all the illness she might get, we never thought of cancer as she maintains to live a healthy living and cigar never kissed her lips. You can just imagine the agony we had while waiting for the test results, hoping and praying for better news and yet this treacherous illness scored a point against us.
We were not medical professionals and to be totally honest with you, we zone out by the time we heard the words cancer, aggressive, stage 4 and chemo. We are just staring the doctor's face while he is explaining everything to us and we are all pretending that we totally understands it and at the same time hoping that anytime from that moment we were all wake up on just a bad dream.
Right now, she is currently out of the hospital and doing home medication and preparing herself for the next battle. A lot of changes took place at home, the ever busy house supervisor juggling brooms, kitchen utensils and preparing everyone for work found herself resting on a bed. Our cook, whom for us will be never replaced even by Gordon Ramsay, is restrained from her playground and shifted to a bland and fruit and veggies diet. Even our dog Yogi sense that there his mother hooman is not feeling well and passionately stays beside her as if it is his own way of taking care of her.
But then, it continuously to challenge us and our faith.
Changes are starting to reflect on her body. Once in a while she shows restlessness and and it is very noticeable that she is starting to lose weight. Symptoms of pleural effusion started to show again. Mood swings once in a while. Loss of appetite. Difficulty of breathing.
I guess this is what "aggressive" means.
We started this campaign to help us raise funds for her medication and maintenance. Aside from the financial help, we do appreciate all the prayers, encouragement and all the love as we head on this next big battle.
Help us to bring her angelic smile on her face.
Allow us to hear her contagious giggles more often.
Help us heal the light of our home.
God bless us all..
