Our Mom, Joy, who just turned 70 last month, was admitted in the hospital last Sunday, October 28, 2018 due to shortness of breath and loss of appetite. She has been diagnosed with Pneumonia, severe Aortic Stenosis (narrowing of the Aortic Valve), and has a lump on her neck which requires surgery and be sent for biopsy.

Pneumonia - Mom is currently on Intensive Antibiotic Treatment. Pleural Effusion (fluid on the lungs) was seen on her right lung after she was seen by a Pulmonologist. Treatment for this is draining the fluid out by inserting a chest catheter aside from the Antibiotics.

Severe Aortic Stenosis (narrowing of the Aortic Valve) requires Open Heart Surgery. Operation for this costs nearly 1M pesos and requires mom to be sent to Manila (a 1-hour plane ride from Bacolod City - where mom is) for the operation. This is still being discussed within the family because of mom’s old age, the cost, and the 50% chance of success.

Doctors have yet to decide on the removal of the lump in her neck to make sure the procedure itself will not cause any untoward pressure on mom's heart.

Because of mom's risk for infection she is on Hospital Quarantine and 24h oxygen until she can breathe without difficulty on her own. Visitors are limited to minimize the possible risk of infection. Her water intake is also limited to only 1L/day because of the pressure it might do to her heart. Other tests like 2D Echo, Ultrasound, X-Rays and other laboratories were also done during the course of this hospitalization. For now, we still do not know when she will be discharged. This will all depend on her results and her response to the medical management.

Before she got sick, mom has been active in our parish and has been a devout Catholic who never failed to serve the Church. As far as I can remember, she has never missed her morning daily Masses, serving the Church as a commentator or a reader. She never had vices and has always been selfless. Even when she is sick, her dedication to her commitment in the Parish, the Work and her unconditional love for her husband, children, and grandchildren -- one of whom is a special child -- are unquestionable.

Currently between us siblings, we have exhausted all of our financial resources for mom’s hospitalization since she is no longer covered by health insurance. Our dad is also no longer working & everything was drained out when our dad had a heart attack in 1996.

We are, in all humility, reaching out for financial assistance for our Mom's continuous treatments and hospitalization. Your donation, whatever amount it may be, will mean so much to us. Your donation will be utilized for mom’s additional hospital expenses, doctors’ fees, and medicines for the treatment of her condition.

If you are also struggling financially, please just help us raise awareness for mom and if we may ask you to be with us in prayer for her health and recovery.
