Heal a Little Heart

I am privileged that I live in the UK where we have an amazing health service, however I grew up in Kenya where medical care is prohibitively expensive for those who are not financially fortunate. It only takes a moment of visiting a developing country to realise the enormous odds that are stacked against those who are unfortunate to be ill and no more so than those with congenital heart disease.

After several years of having all the intentions, I decided to put my thoughts into action. Having visited pretty much all the hospitals in Nairobi during my visits and speaking to various doctors, things started finally to fall in place last year. I was offered an opportunity to team up with Healing Little Hearts - a charity that has helped hundreds of young kids with heart disease in India and other parts of the world. This way I now have the infrastructure to provide world class Congenital Cardiac Surgery to young kids in Kenya - for free!

As a group of Cardiologists; Cardiac Surgeons, Intensivists, Perfusionists and Nurses - Healing Little Hearts will be making its first trip to Kenya this summer (2016) between the 11th and 18th of June - operating at the Mater Hospital in Nairobi. Our aim is not only to provide complex heart surgery and cardiac care but by working together with the local doctors - train them to operate and manage these complex patients independently.

The funding of this trip is provided by generous donations to Healing Little Hearts and the Mater Hospital Nairobi (via the annual Mater Run).
