Campaign Story
He just wanted to play outside of their house and enjoy time with his playmates.
Xian is a six year old boy with Down Syndrome born with a complicated heart condition called Tetralogy of Fallot. This is a rare heart condition caused by a combination of four heart defects that are present at birth. Due to this condition Xian has never played outside of his home.
His heart's abnormality causes poor supply of oxygen in his body making him get tired easily. He is often carried by his mother so he can move about around the house. It is further more of a challenge for his mother bringing him to the hospital commuting from Marikina City to Philippine Heart Centre in Quezon City. Xian can hardly walk or stand even for short periods of time.
Xian's mother, Leizel Asuncion, wished nothing for her son but to see him play with other kids and enjoy his childhood. She is very hopeful because her son's heart condition was detected early on. She and her son's physicians, are positive that Xian can live a healthier life if he receives the appropriate surgical treatment he needs.
Leizel knows that her son having Down syndrome is already a challenge for him to live a productive healthy life in the society, but it is further heartbreaking knowing with this heart condition, her son is even more limited to survive life. Yet, a mother's love is relentless. She will move all possibilities and knock on people's hearts and doors to give her son a chance. Can we be an instrument of that hope?
