Hello lovely people of the internet, I hoped you would take a minute to read about why I want to raise £4500 for my wonderful sister, Kady. I am 21 and love my big sister like any other person would, the only difference is, she can't see me, hear me or communicate with me and can have around 28 epileptic fits every day. Although, to me, this makes no difference to the love and happiness Kady deserves, it can make daily life a bit of a struggle. So, why do I need to raise £4500? Kady lives in two separate residences. Thankfully, one is designed for such extreme disability's with amazing 24 hour care, the other is our home where us, her family, care for her with limited options for equipment. Unfortunately, her mobilitiy (she used to take steps as long as she was supported) has decreased dramatically in the last year or so to the point where she will rarely walk at all. This, combined with a tablet she is on, has caused her to gain a lot of weight. My mum treasures the time Kady has at home and hopes to keep having her home in the future. However, having several medical issues herself (many gained from years of caring, both for my sister and others in the community, as a nurse, carer, palliative carer and private carer), she is finding this increasingly difficult and needs more help when Kady is at home. There are several help options to choose from, however as a family, we feel the most beneficial to us would be a ceiling track hoist with a specially designed harness to keep Kady safe, were she to have a fit whilst in motion. The only problem is, the council's strict rules on funding continuously cause issues when trying to get equipment to help with my sister's care, and often, appealing to get the equipment my sister needs turns in to a lengthy process. Currently, it appears that the council will not fund the ceiling hoist we need because the other residence that Kady lives at has one already, but this is no help to us when Kady is at home. Therefore, I have taken it upon myself to try and raise this money my family desperately needs so that we can keep being together without putting anyone at risk of injury. Doctors told my mum years ago, they didnt think Kady would make it to 2 years old. With Kady's 30th birthday coming up this year, I would love to surprise my mum (and sister!) and say I have the money to fund this hoist, Every and any donation is greatly appreciated and thank you for reading my family's story, Kirsty xx
