Am kind of at wit's end

Am feeling sick again sleeping in a cold cramped car, now without my pup Cici of 13 years. Last time I was in the hospital (in September), my doctor said I cannot sleep in my car any longer. But where is there a place I can rent for under $400 a month? I live on a fixed income and rents are much higher. I usually have about $300-500 a month for food, gas, car insurance, phone, and other bills.

I have an interview for housing on Halloween day for a building for low income seniors 62+ (I will be 70 in November) but it is being built and will not be completed until January 2020. I am disabled with a severe heart murmur (the doctor says they can’t fix, it is too risky), congestive heart failure and just had second breast cancer surgery. I need to be on oxygen and I need an electric scooter to get around (I use the ones at the grocery store now but that is very limited). I am completely out of breath and exhausted when I walk from the parking lot to the store. I also suffer from blood clots on my lungs and knee joint arthritis.

I cannot find work even though I am a published writer and editor. Lost a great job last year due to loss of a major donor/funder of the nonprofit.

All I want is a room somewhere

far away from the cold night air

with one enormous chair

oh wouldn’t it be loverly…

warm face, warm hands, warm feet

Things seem harder since I had to put my puppy to sleep a month ago. I am grieving and crying a lot. Also, she would keep me warm, make me laugh, was a great companion, protection and people loved her. She attracted people to her. And they wanted to give her food and treats. Now I feel alone, isolated and miss her so much.

I need a job and a home, even if it is a camper and an electric scooter would be great. I would love to help other women like myself who are here in their cars or on streets without homes with their dogs.

Who Am I?

I am a published author, (soon a book coming out about Hippies contains four chapters that I wrote), co-author of five romantic travel guides, freelance writer/editor, blogger, animal lover (worked at Best Friends Animal Sanctuary once upon a time) and activist. I am best known for my Have Dog Blog Will Travel blog for 12 years. But, you rarely get rich as a writer, and freelancing jobs come and go with the wind. Lost a great job last year working on an anti-trafficking newsletter due to the loss of a major donor/funder.

I write about other senior women without homes and advocate for them. There are 1,000+ women without homes in this area. 50% of those without homes are 50+ and 65+

Why are grandmas and grandpas sleeping on the streets and in cars in America???

"People over the age of 50 already make up around half of homeless in the United States, with the homeless population older than 65 expected to triple" by 2030. @MKushel

So, I am turning to you to ask for financial help. Any amount is greatly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance from my heart. I’m sure that Cici agrees with me... woof woof woof.

  • I’m so sorry you lost your home. You and so many seniors deserve better after years of hard work. I wish I could send more, but I’m retired myself. Take care.
