With more and more people getting into poultry since March of last year due to the start of the pandemic, there is increasing demand for chicks. In the Province of BC, where the hatchery is going to located - there are only 5 other hatcheries. Some only have certain breeds available - so either you have to see if you can get them back east or have to wait for a group order from an American Hatchery like McMurray.

The plan would be for 2021 to work with local breeders to source hatching eggs and during this year build out rare chicken flocks, two turkey flocks, quail and pheasant.

The Equipment

Incubators and Hatchers

To start out I am looking to get two GQF 1502 Incubator/Hatcher units which can hatch out 576 chicken eggs each month. Total equipment cost is $3000-$3500 including shipping, taxes and surcharge. May need a Separate GQF hatcher which is $1200 before shipping, taxes and surcharge.

Hatching egg's

assuming on average they are $7.5 each, the first 3 weeks worth of hatch eggs would cost $4395

Marketing/Advertising

Out of the funds, 2105 would be allocated to marketing and advertising to get the hatcheries name out there and what we offer.

  • building out website
  • engagement advertising

The remaining $10,000 would be used to help cover general expenses

  • building out brooders to house the chicks until sold
