WHAT THE PROJECT IS ALL ABOUT:

Hashtag: dog tag every dog is a project conceptualized with the goal of providing free denim dog collars to every stray dog in the Province of Benguet, located in northern Luzon in the Philippines.

At 35 Philippine peso or less than 1 US dollar, you can help provide stray dogs a sturdy denim collar.

The distribution of dog collars shall help convince dog owners to take control of their dogs by not letting them roam around the streets. This will tremendously help the Province of Benguet control RABIES CASES, prevent road accidents, prevent dog bites and prevent scattering of wastes in public streets.

HOW WILL A COLLAR COMPEL PET OWNERS TO KEEP THEIR DOGS UNDER THEIR CONTROL?

This project is supported by local rabies ordinances which require owners to take control of their dogs at all times. Penalties shall be imposed to irresponsible owners.

WHAT'S WITH THE DENIM?

The collars shall be made from upcycled old denim jeans which shall be asked from the public. Denim is a sturdy material which makes it ideal for a dog collar. Instead of letting unused jeans clutter closets or getting dumped in saturated landfills, jeans donors can actually help save the environment too!

WHY A COLLAR?

Many owners in our Province and in the Philippines do not bother to make their dogs wear collars. The national rabies law prescribes plastic or metal dog tags for every dog. However, even if there are dog tags, there is no collar where these will be placed! Thus this project aims to address this by providing a collar and providing a cloth tag which is more cost effective!

The collars are vital for dog identification and registration in the Province of Benguet. Every collar will have white cloth tags sewn in them. This project actually complements the dog registration app being developed by the veterinary office of the provincial local government unit. When a dog is registered using the app, a unique registration number is generated. This number shall be written using paint pen or wash-proof pen on the dog tag. Everytime the dog goes astray, its owner and address can be traced by anyone who has the app installed in his/her phone by typing the registration No. On the app. Through this, penalties can be imposed to irresponsible owners. This is instead of catching the stray dog and placing it in the pound. Impounding subjects dogs to poor conditions. Also, the local government needs to spend a lot to sustain it.

This is also more cost effective than microchipping which costs around 5 US dollars per dog compared with collars which only cost around 1 US dollar or less!

WHO WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE PROJECT?

I am Annabelle Apse, a veterinarian working for the local government of the Province of Benguet. Unfortunately, our local government cannot fund this project due to to budgetary constraints given other projects that have to be prioritized. I strongly believe this project will have a tremendous impact to our community that's why I'm pushing to make it happen-hopefully through your help!

I am a newbie in crowdfunding, and i feel this is a longshot. But I know it is worth trying because I believe this novel project will have a big big impact to rabies control in our Province.

I have actually started making the prototype denim dog collars and tags using my own money. However, I cannot make enough pieces, my target is 10,000 collars or 10,000 dogs to be given the collar. According to our census, we have around 75,000 dogs and many have no collars.

ASIDE FROM CASH, DONORS CAN ABSOLUTELY DONATE...

As can be seen in the pictures of the prototype, 1 collar needs the folowing materials:

1. 1 plastic side release buckle that can fit 3 cm width denim

2. 1 plastic adjuster that can fit 3 cm width denim

3. 2 pcs metal D buckle that fits 3 cm width denim

4. Old denim jeans-not tattered, please remove brand tags

Due to time constraint, i cannot sew all the collars. Thus i have to ask a professional to do it. I have asked one to do the job and she pegged labor price at P 25 pesos or half dollar. For the plastic components, I have found a cheaper source. And if purchased in bulk, the price lowers.

IMPORTANT NOTE AND DISCLAIMER:

The donations to be received through this fundraiser shall all be accounted for. These will all be used solely to make this project possible. Absolutely no part of the donations will be used personally by me.

WHY BOTHER AT ALL TO PURSUE THIS PROJECT?

Maybe you're asking why I am pushing hard for this project. I have been working on our rabies program for around 9 years. I see that there is a gap in our implementation of the rabies program and that is dog registration and identification. This project will help address core issues that affect the rabies program which is irresponsible pet ownership. Why only now you ask? It is only this year when our office is able to have the registration app developed which was not possible years back. This project complements the registration app.

End notes:

If you want to adopt this project go ahead! Companies looking for a CSR PROJECT are also most welcome.

Hope you can help me make this project possible!
