So my father, in his infinite wisdom and hilarity, decided to enter the family into the Loch Ness Marathon as a Christmas present last year. Most of the condemned have wriggled their ways out, and now it's just me, my dad, and my (much sportier) sister. I can't stress enough how much I have never wanted to run a marathon, but I'm going to do it. And I need some motivation!
I've decided to raise money for Migrant Artists Mutual Aid, a network of people based in Liverpool who support asylum seekers and refugees. The group, which I've been involved in since the beginning of the year, produces cultural events to promote cohesion and intercultural understanding while raising money for migrants in crisis.
We are a mutual aid group, not a charity, and we aim to provide a safety net that is based on shared values of justice and equality, that affirms that even in the toughest times we can stand together to help each other and ourselves. We work closely with other organisations both locally and nationally to ensure the fair and legal treatment of asylum seekers, and the money raised will be put towards our legal aid and crisis funds.
Please give whatever you can, it'll (almost) make all the training worth it and knowing I'm helping the wonderful MaMa ladies will keep me going on the 28th!
