Hello and thank you for visiting our fundraising page...we hope you're sitting down as what you are about to read may come as a bit of a shock to your system...

Hannah and Chloe will be RUNNING the Reading Half Marathon on March 2nd 2014!! As our closest friends and family you'll know that we are two girls that won't run for the bus and will just about jog to the chip shop after a night out BUT we will be donning our trainers and sweatbands as we take on the challenge of completing a 13 mile run! However, this is not the biggest challenge we will be taking on this year... we are doing this in order to help those less fortunate in Tanzania and that's where the real challenge will begin!

TAMIHA - The Tanzanian Milenuium Hand Foundation are a non-profit, non-government organisaton working towards creating a self-reliant community, providing Tanzanians with the skills, education and support that some of us really do take for granted, in order to help them find jobs and provide for their families.

We will be spending 3 weeks of August 2014 in USA River - a small town approximately 10 miles east of Arusha in Northern Tanzania (Eastern Africa, South of Kenya) working with one of the programmes TAMIHA offer, these are:

Vocational School - A one year free programme for young adults between the ages of 14 and 22 who are unable to pay $40 per year to attend a secondary school, where they can specialise in cooking, sewing, tourism or computers. Many of the students come from extremely poor families or are orphans and upon graduation from the programme TAMIHA staff help the students find jobs in their chosen field.

Orphanage - The orphanage has 70 children between the ages of 2 and 9 and TAMIHA are able to feed the orphans two meals per day whilst also taking care of their medical needs, such as tests for HIV, treatment for flu, malaria, TB etc. TAMIHA prepare the orphans for school in the hope that their work within the community and with volunteers will find sponsors who can help finance the orphans' elementary school education.

HIV and Widows - In USA River there are many widows and abandoned women due to HIV, quite often when a woman admits she has HIV her husband leaves her despite the fact that he might have given it to her. TAMIHA's goal is to eliminate the social stigma in the community through social and sexual education and to provide the widows with job skills so that they can support themselves and their families and re-integrate back into the community.

Lukundane - A community centre, a training centre, a marketplace and so much more. Here, the students from the vocational school can cook delicous, wholesome meals and the widows can sell their art work. There is also a shop where all basics can be bought. All proceeds go towards TAMIHA's projects.

Just from those brief outlines of the programme, you can see how much good TAMIHA are doing and we are so passionate about contributing all that we can to this amazing foundation. If you are able to help us reach our goal, whatever the amount is, you can safely and easily donate via PayPal and any money we raise will be split between:

  • getting us to Tanzania
  • the fees for being there that go directly back into the charity
  • much needed supplies to aid with TAMIHA's work

We will be fronting a fair amount of the money ourselves, so greatly appreciate any amount you are willing to donate for this amazing cause and this amazing adventure we will soon undertake!

It really will be the toughest, yet most rewarding 3 weeks of our lives and we are so hopeful that you can help make the weeks of painful training ahead even more worth it!

Thank you so much in advance,

A very scared and sore Chloe and Hannah xxx
