I have been doing hair for ten years and my journey has brought me to a very exciting place- I have the opportunity to own my own shop and revive a beloved neighborhood barber shop at the same time.
My hair shop is called Hairsmith, and the location is in the former Frank's Barber Shop. Frank's was founded in 1930 and was owned/operated by brothers Frank and Tony Crisafio. Tony the Barber, as he was known in town, cut hair here until he was 95 years old. At the time of Tony's passing in 2014, Frank's was the second-longest running business on Penn Ave in Lawrenceville. The space is very intimate and has a great vibe and I am honored to have the opportunity to continue the art of smart hair in this historic Pittsburgh location.
Because this opportunity was presented to me so suddenly, I am going to need a little bit of financial help. As a single, working class mum I am on a bit of a tight budget.
The money I raise will be used for some well-needed renovations i.e. new floor, plaster and paint, plumbing updates, new light fixtures, and equipment. I do plan to keep the elements that give the space it's character i.e Tony's mirrors and cabinetry that remain, the tile and woodwork that remain, etc.
I am very excited about creating a great space where I can continue my craft and offer something to my community. Thank you for reading about my project and considering donating to Hairsmith. Cheers, everyone!
