Ha Sekantsi Learning Centre

I wish to request for support on this proposed community learning center in Ha- Sekantši to improve education, health, and economic prosperity for the village. Due to the lack of opportunity and education in the village, the unemployment rate is 45% with an illiteracy rate of 30%. The children in this village must walk approximately 4 hours roundtrip across difficult terrain in order to get to and from school. Therefore, many children attend school only intermittently or not at all. Our aim is to ensure that the community members of Ha-Sekantši, including all children, herd-boys, and adults, have access to education through the construction of a structure that will serve as a pre-school, junior primary school, night school, skills training facility, and monthly health clinic.

In 2019, We facilitated a collaboration with J.Portelli Projects from Malta, the community of Ha-Sekantši, Possible Dreams Foundation, Rise International, local government, and other government ministries to build the Likolobeng footbridge which allows the entire community of Ha-Sekantši to now cross the Likolobeng River and reach essential services and school safely during winter and rainy season, a barrier that had prohibited them before. We have seen measurable improvement within the village from this footbridge construction and we are looking to take the next step to develop local education and economic opportunity to address the needs of the Ha-Sekantši village.

Our proposal amounts to LSL608, 879.00 ($35,467.40 ) in funding to obtain the necessary materials for construction and building of the community learning center scheduled to start the construction in October 2020.
