GVN Costa Rica

I will be volunteering for six weeks starting in May with Global Volunteer Network, a non- profit organization based in New Zealand.  My goal is to raise 3,000 dollars that will include the costs for three meals a day, lodging with a residential family, airfare, and approximately 500 dollars worth of educational supplies, including to books, pencils, notebooks, paper, markers, etc.  

The following is a description from the Global Volunteer Network's website:

"Volunteers will be placed at one of our teaching English projects, situated in impoverished housing areas.  Teaching usually takes place in a small community center or Church within the housing area.  The people at these projects come from low income families and cannot afford to study English at a private institutes.

These projects focus primarily on children of all ages who come to learn English, participate in games and cultural activities.  Volunteers will therefore partake in teaching English as well as providing support for all activities.

Please expect your teaching placement to feel disorganized, under staffed and underfunded.  This is why volunteers are needed and appreciated in the projects.  Volunteers will not necessarily teach in front of large classrooms or in formal classroom settings, and often teaching is done in one-on-one formats, or small groups."

Your funding is essential to help these students immensely.  I am experienced in teaching English as a Second language and will make the most of every second I work with these students.
