I am in my freshman year of college at Grand Valley State University and enjoying school. God has supported me in so many ways and I can’t wait to grow in the years to come. I am writing this letter because after praying for a couple months, I think there is something God wants me to learn in Guatemala. So, I am going to Guatemala again this summer! Last year’s trip impacted me so much that I would love to go back. During last year’s trip, I had the opportunity to serve many kids and their families during the feeding program and build houses for the widows.
If you could pray for our team that we will be challenged, pushed out of our comfort zones, our safety while traveling and to stay healthy. I also would appreciate it if you could pray for our hearts that we stay focused on serving God and not worrying about ourselves.
Last year the biggest impact to me was how we didn’t need to speak the same language to play with the kids and to be able to laugh with them. They were the happiest kids, even though some of them were barely making it. They were always happy and smiling whenever we played with them. Please pray for us that all goes well, and whatever does go wrong that God would use it for His glory.
Lastly, I would also like to ask for financial support. We are supposed to raise $2,000 by April 14th. We will be gone from June 7th-16th. There will be about 14 people going on the trip to Chichicastenango, Guatemala. We will be doing most of the same things that we did last year depending on how much we get in donations from the church. We will be serving with the same program that we served with last year, Pray America (www.prayamerica.org). Pray America exists to provide better homes, water, and heat to the Mayan people of Guatemala. They equip them by teaching jobs and practical skills. We will be buying all the materials for each home that we build and restore. The cool thing is, Pray America uses the funds raised to employ many local people in Guatemala. From their kitchen staff at their headquarters to the construction supervisors, they are intentional about making the local economy better and are passionate about equipping people.
I do want to warn you that because I am using this website, that 4% does go to them.
