Growing Hope for Vinda: Help me build a healing garden for my mommy while she battles her stage IV colon cancer (The healing garden will be open to other cancer warriors once its completed)

I am a strong woman because a strong woman raised me. Its been a year since my mother Fredesvinda Trevecedo-Alam was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer, and I'm extremely grateful to God for blessing her with unwavering fighting spirit and a zest for life.

Instead of telling you the difficulty we encountered last year starting from her diagnosis, one major operation and 8 cycles of chemotherapy, I will tell you how my mom rose above this adversity and showed me the true meaning of RESILIENCE.

Just recently, we found out from her latest CT Scan results that there were new masses in her liver and lungs. We were advised to to bring her to a cancer center outside the country for advanced chemotherapy treatments, but upon learning the cost which is more than half a million pesos, she vehemently refused and told me no more other treatments and she will just take meds prescribed by her oncologist. She's more interested with spending her remaining time with people close to her heart and that she would like to do something worthwhile.

She said she feels better and that she already claimed that she is healed but she made me promised one thing: to make sure she looks beautiful with lovely a dress on and a smile on her face. It was the toughest thing to hear for a daughter but looking at her smiling at me while saying those things, it gave me a sense of calmness and I made a promise to myself that I’ll do whatever it takes to make her happy and that's what led me to reach out to friends and family.

For now, she wants to start with her gardening but my plan is to give her more than that. I would like to turn our backyard into a beautiful healing garden where she can enjoy and spend most of her time with her friends and family or anyone who would need a place to unwind, or find peace and serenity even just for a day. She has inspired me to do all this and I know she can inspire more.

Her future healing garden will include lots of flowers and different plants, a small koi pond, some comfortable outdoor sitting/dining and a small private space where she and her guests can relax and be surrounded with nature. I can already imagine her happily singing, dancing and entertaining in her garden. Once this project is completed, we will open it for other visitors especially those who needs a fresh calming environment
