My sister Grethel who is 29 years old and a young vibrant mother of 2 was rushed to the hospital on July 23 after difficulty breathing. Her blood pressure shot up and the medical staff was truly alarmed. When she stabilized, she was confined in the ICU.
She was then diagnosed with rheumatic heart disease with severe mitral valve stenosis and regurgitation, something that surprised us all as she had no prior history. She was advised for an immediate mitral valve repair\replacement. This surgery will indeed cost a lot and resources are scarce. My sister is a housewife and takes care of her kids all day long. Living a very simple life, her husband's income is also just enough to support the family. We don't have much resources and while the entire family is helping defray the costs of this operation, we anticipate we would barely have enough.
She has now been temporarily discharged waiting for final clearance before her operation and we are scrambling to get the resources needed to continue with the operation. These are truly trying times for us as a family and while it has brought us all together, we fear that all our efforts will not be enough or yet too late. She is on heavy blood thinners right now to alleviate her condition, but we are truly hoping for a more permanent solution that would extend her life.
Our family is asking for help for my sister. She's a brave person and truly has a lot to live for. She's a mother fighting for more time with her children, to care for them and watch them grow as all mothers dream of.
We want to give her a fighting chance and all your help, no matter how small, will truly matter a lot.
From the bottom of our hearts thank you for the love.
