In September 2012 my husband and I decided to build a website that would allow students to sell and buy second-hand books (mainly - but not exclusively - academic books). Our main target audience were Greek and Cypriot students. In order to build the website we had to dedicate much of our free time and own money. We are both researchers/academics and strongly believe that students should be able to buy books, even nowadays that the econonic recession "thrives" in Europe.
There is no other Greek website of this kind, that's why our initiative was immediately embraced with enthusiasm - we started with 0 book entries and today we have 462 registered users and more than 1176 books from students all over Greece and Cyprus.
Just to stress that we have no personal gain from this, something which is also clearly stated on our website. The students are the ones who decide the selling price of the books they want to sell and ALL money goes to them. We have spent money on the website (design and hosting) but have earned 0 euros heretofore and have no intention to make any profit from this. We just want to help students - as simple as that.
Unfortunately, when we built our website we could not invest a lot of money on it and therefore tried to build a very basic one using Joomla. Given that many students seem to currently use the website (we had 48,505 pageviews so far), we were thinking of enhancing it and make it more dynamic and user friendly. This upgrade could be made by a professional with approx. 700 euros. If you could help us to help students, that would be great! You can visit our website at www.greekusedbooks.com
Many thanks to everyone in advance for their time and help.
